Must be time for Bowen Studios to pump up year-end sales --- more Wolverine statues.
Reminds me of the 90s when Wolverine was in EVERY Marvel comic EVERY month....
The statue looks too thin --- I'm surprised you're happy with it, JB.

How is this different than any other sculpt form Bowen or the Marvel

Doesn't it get awful tiring, working so hard to miss the point?
There is absolutely nothing about that Nightcrawler (or the Thing, or the
Medusa in the same series) that distinguish them as "Alex Ross". The
Thing, in fact, is pure Sal Buscema. But Sal Buscema's name doesn't get
the fanboys creaming in their panties, and neither does Dave Cockrum's.
So take this totally generic Nighcrawler, slap Ross's name on it -- and
watch the lemmings line up. Frankly, it disgusts me -- as do most of the
"Alex Ross" pieces, which barely resemble his work but which, by using
his name, sidestep those awkward issues of crediting, oh, you know, the
actual creators of the characters.

Not quite. Sculpted by Larry Malott and designed by Alex Ross. I think the point is there seems nothing in the design to make it "Alex Ross", as opposed to Dave.

This strikes a particularly sour note in my head, of course, because a few years back I stopped DC from issuing a generic Superman action figure with my name slapped on it.

The reason it's an "Alex Ross" bust is because he designed it, and initiated the scuplting process.
He's always been open and honest about the fact that he bases the designs on the more "iconic" versions of the characters. You're right, the Thing bust is very much a Buscema, and Alex has always said that he based it on his work.

And how much money goes to the creators of those "iconic" versions, whose names don't even get mentioned in the packaging?When I did MAN OF STEEL there were people lined up 'round the block to howl and moan and cry -- inappropriately, in context -- "Creator's Rights!" Where are those people now?

Back to Wolverine --- the "action" pose in the brown costume is pretty sweet, but somewhat frustrating. My costume, but not my head (on the unmasked version).

Yeah, the head on the unmasked brown costume isnt what I would have liked see on that. Your version would have been better.
Back to Alex Ross, where did anyone say anything about not crediting the inspiration, ( as stated above Alex openly admits his inspiration) I was asking about the difference between this and other sculptors. Do they not get their inspiration from others designs? How different can any other design be and be recognizable to that charator? Isnt this what youve stated before about staying "On model" You state about fanboys "creaming their panties" but yet you get excited about Bowen's work , and others... wheres the difference is what Im asking?

I think the difference is that since Ross is known as an illustrator, the initial expectation is that a statue bearing his name would resemble his art. If JB designed a Batman statue from scratch, but did it in the Bruce Timm style, I think it would be misleading to solicit it as a John Byrne Batman statue.
