I cannot believe this.  What an asshole!

But John Byrne, you are too cool.  Way to help out a great fan and a great guy.

Gerry,
You're one of the nicest guys posting around here.  When I read this, it really hit me -- like  a little piece of my childhood died.  Golden has been one of my heroes.  To find out he's such a bully-- such a low-life-- it's a shock.  He's dead to me.

JB, you're one of the greats.  And a gentleman too.

Mr. Byrne I'd  like to say that, personally, I find your generosity in this matter to be insulting to firemen.

I'd LIKE to say that but I'm not quite fucked in the head enough to pull it off at this time.

Everyone has already said better than I can how crappy a thing to do this was, and how great a response from JB that was... so I'm just going to say that sometimes a commission is more about the person's credits than the illustration itself.  Seriously, I could do a MUCH better Dr. Strange, but no one has any fuzzy memories of my comic work (because I never did any!).  I would definitely make sure I'd get my money's worth from a commission artist like JB or Mike Zeck or the like, you know, someone who's art confounds you with how good it is.

Funny how the Universe balances itself. A thoroughly unprofessional, and frankly, assholish, act is counteracted by a classy, commendable, act.

As others have said:
Gerry - that stinks.
JB - What a nice offer on your part.

I just made the connection, but is this the same Renee Witterstaetter that was the editor on She-Hulk?

Damn.  It's bad enough that an artist is that unprofessional, but an artist AND a former editor?  You think one of them would know better.
