Paulo: Didn't Frank Miller write that series? Anyway, whoever wrote that, I hate it. -------------
Yep. Frank Miller. The guy sure knows how to treat the characters with respect!

I want the Goddamned Batman to punch Robin in the throat in that scene. I hate when writers try to make kids seem hip, I hated Short Round as Indiana Jones' sidekick for the same reason. It's that mentality born of 1980s television where the Dad character is a dolt and all the kids are savvy and street-smart.
I prefer more the Pei Mei/Bride relationship in KILL BILL 2. This cocky smartass kid gets her ass handed to her right off the bat, in a humiliating way, in order to establish who should be talking and who should be listening.
I'm not saying every old/young relationship should be like this, just the ones involving the training on how to fight ninjas and super-psychos and professional assassins. Show some respect, kid.

Or Batman should have kicked him out of the car and said "if it's so queer, you can walk."

Or he could have acted like a real kid and been blown away by the rocket car and the super hero who grabbed him

I can't imagine a kid talking like that to Batman. I can barely see an adult
criminal having the guts to speak that way to Batman but a 12 yr old? no
way.
I think Grant Morrison has done some very good writing but I agree, he
wasn't right for x-men. If you're embarrased to write about certain
characters, you should find another book. Not like he couldn't have found
another writing job.

Yeah, create your own characters, don't dictate what an established universe should be.

If he was acting like a real kid, he would probably still been in shock seeing as how he had just witnessed his parents being blown away.

i don't mind change in an established universe(since the universe is not
static) but it should proceed from logical developments.

Sure, you can expand it or focus on certain aspects, but don't break it down and try to reinvent it.

Grant Morrison seems to be one of these writers who put a high priority on "fun" and "telling good stories" instead of actually RESPECTING the characters and their creators' original vision. It's indicative of a real sickness at the heart of today's comic books that someone like that would be hired to write one of the Lee/Kirby creations.

Is that (in itself) such a bad thing? I guess that trick is to do it while respecting the original creators' vision.
I like Morrison as a writer (though I think he's at his best when he has the discipline to reign in his more excessive ideas).
Morrison's New X-Men run seemed to owe a lot to the X-Men movies. Maybe he was asked to play it that way, in an attempt to draw in new readers.

Is this one of those posts that suffers without a smiley face at the end?
