It's not necessary. There is a marked difference between the changes to the characters in NXM and, say, Iron Man and Reed Richards being portrayed as fascists during Civil War.

Why do these stories need to be written at all?!?! Oh, that's right . . . to serve an ever shrinking and aging fan base that should have moved on years ago. If this is what a writer has to resort to then that is a failing of the ability of the writer. It's about the characters not about the stories that someone want to tell and chooses to use any of these characters to tell it.

But like I have said. . . .this has all been said before. Wonder when anyone will start listening?!!?

I'd rather have Cyclops portrayed as a fascist than a killer. For whatever reason.

I have no problem with the concept of euthanasia, for instance. In fact, I endorse it, when there is no other alternative. But for superheroes, there should always be another alternative.

If Cyclops is a character who should never kill under any circumstances, then Superman certainly is. So why did you have Superman kill the Pocket-Universe Phantom Zone villains?

You may not like it, I may not like it. In fact, I hate the way he portrayed Magneto in Planet X, like a complete Nazi, instead of the Claremont Magneto version which is the one I like the most. But all those 'changes' were well thought and reasonable.

By what criteria are they judged "well thought and reasonable"? Might your criteria differ somewhat from thopse of the people disagreeing with you?

Don't cloud the issue with facts.

As long as there's a chance-- as long as there's hope-- Cyclops wouldn't kill. Not the guy I read about back when the books were, y'know, about the X-Men.

 QUOTE:
It really annoyed me in New X-Men when Grant had Cyclops cripling some dissident students.

I'm afraid to ask.

And Cyclops isn't a fascist. I don't care if the guy shared headspace with Apocalypse, he's Mr. X-Men.

On a side note, I got to meet Mike Carey this week. He's a great guy and is the one who got me back reading UXM. He's even doing an interview on my group's shared comics blog sometime around SDCC.
