However, in the comics, Wolverine was wearing that costume BEFORE he
joined the X-men, the "New" X-men didn't wear uniforms. And as he
tweaked his costume over the years and wore it even when not on X-men
missions, it seems a pretty stupid line for him to be saying. The only
person responsible for him looking like an idiot over the years was
himself. It's the creator making a snarky comment through a character.

It really pisses me off that Morrison (and a number of other comic book creators),TPTB at Marvel, and many comic book fans always hold up and tout the success of the X-Men movies as the RIGHT WAY to do the X-Men comics. Many of these people believe that it was the first X-Men movie that first introduced the mainstream/civilian non comic book reading public to the X-Men, and that is simply not true. It was the 90's X-Men cartoon that introduced millions of people of ALL AGES to the colorful costume wearing SUPERHERO X-Men team.

Frankly, I find it hard to imagine that young kids would be that taken in by the costumes in the movie. I first came across the Claremont/Byrne X-MEN in CLASSIC X-MEN at the age of 17 or 18 and I'm pretty sure I would give them a miss if they wore the costumes they had in the movie.

Isn't "metahuman" a DC word? Coined to get around the whole "who owns 'superhero' " nonsense?

I like his work, but I would agree that is out of character for Wolverine to say, and the Emma Frost costume he created, shit.

So? Maybe he didn't like it when the Canadian government had him wear it either.

Why would he wear that if he didn't want to, though? This a guy who quit the Canadian service at the drop of a hat (slicing some guy's tie in the process).

To make his sudden disgust for his costume work you have to rewrite the character since he first appeared.
And once it's been "revealed" that Wolverine secretly hated his costume all along (despite no one forcing him to wear it and no indication that anyone could force him to wear a costume he didn't want to) -- how do you ever get him to put the costume ON again? Now that we know his "true" feelings, that costume should never be seen again.

On that note, did you have an in-story reason in mind for Wolverine's
changing to the brown costume? When asked by Nightcrawler, his answer
was simply "Why not?", but being Claremont's script that's no guarantee that
that's what you intended.
Over the years, it's been said that the brown costume came about as a
reflection of his becoming a "kinder, gentler" Logan.

If anything, I saw the brown costume as an indication of Logan becoming more feral. He wanted true wolverine colors, not those of a college football team.
