I look at Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko as being the comic book counterparts to the Beatles, primarily John, Paul, and George
I agree 100% with that comment. having said that who was marvel's Ringo?

I'm all for giving Kirby his due. But let's not ignore the fact that Steve Ditko, with Lee, created Marvel's most popular character not Kirby. I've read The Fly and it doesn't resemble Spider-Man in the least.

What I always admired about Ditko was his characters were all so different: The Creeper, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Hawk and Dove, in appearance as well as who they were.

Marvel had a lot of Ringo's or Pete Best's in those early years.

Nobody said that Jack created Spider-Man (except Jack) I just wondered what Jack's original Spider-Man sketches looked like.

You know, I think I'd go with what Micheal said: John Romita, Sr.
Like Ringo, he had talent and personality. He may not have been as wildly inventive as the others, but he was a very fine artist who was the backbone of Marvel, as Ringo was the backbone (backbeat?) of The Beatles.

I would put inkers like Dick Ayers and Chic Stone more as the Ringo of early Marvel. They were a huge part in the look of the books but not as much on the creative side. Romita was the Elvis of Marvel. He was so good it didn't matter if he was covering other peoples material or creating his own.

Is that really the case? I was under the impression that Stan came up with that story later so as to make the story simpler for interviews.
