I believe Kirby never intended for the Eternals to exist in Marvel continuity.  He gave in to editorial pressure and included SHIELD agents, as I recall, but the "Hulk" who appeared in the only "team-up" issue Kirby did was a cosmic-powered robot built by college students working from a comic book.  Had Kirby had his way, I don't think the Eternals and their story would ever have had anything to do with Spidey, the Avengers, or the rest.

It was Mark Gruenwald (a fan-turned-pro if ever there was one) in Thor Annual #8 who incorporated the Eternals, Celestials, and co. into the Marvel Universe proper, and generally "upped" the level of cosmic power in the books by a few notches.  Of course, Dr. Strange kept introducing cosmos-quaking heavy-hitters on a routine basis, as well...

Great Galactus, JB.

Like the heroes and villains, the vast majority of cosmic beings that have stuck around as fan favorites where more or less created by Lee, Kirby, and Ditko--Galactus, the Watcher, Eternity, the Living Tribunal (though after Ditko left Dr. Strange), the Celestials, etc.

It's not just that they came first, it's more that they where--once again like the heroes and villains--better concepts.

And grander! It's the grandeur that's
gone out of these stories and characters!

Had to revisit this one on it's anniversary as well :)

No one - not even their creators - drew Galactus and Dr. Doom better than you, JB.

I miss those guys.

I will humbly accept Galactus, but Doom, ever and always, belongs to Kirby.

That’s a humble blind spot you have, sir.
Your Doom takes a back seat to no one.
