The original cover was done from a sketch that was sent to me. Most likely by Dave Cockrum or Ed Hannigan. That sketch would have gone thru the editorial mill before heading my way.

Update:  I was able to communicate with Ed Hannigan through Facebook this morning and he says it wasn't one of his cover sketches so it must've been Cockrum!  Sort of a bummer for me as I would've liked to have known that while he was still with us.  Thanks again for the info JB.

evening on Comic Connect for $63,000....alas not to me. I
was the winning bidder for a while which was fun but it
quickly got out of my range. It's new home won't be as
good as I could've offered. ;0)

Looking at the original cover all these years later. That Spider-Man figure is SUCH a Dave pose I don’t know how I could ever have thought it was Ed.

Fifteen years and some change and I knew which commission it was and that it was Joe’s, just from the thread title.
