Brubaker's version is the first one in a long time that "feels" like that same guy. There's a scene in the first issue where Cap is trying to take out some terrorists who are hijacking a cable car, and he's got the shield drawn ready for action.

That sounds more like looking like that same guy.
Yeah, if Cap whips out his shield and is ready for action, that's great storytelling.

Theodore, I'm not convinced yet that WS isn't Nomad. I thought at first that's where the story was heading, too. And as noted, with a cosmic cube floating around, it's still not out of the question.

The Bucky-thing made me step away from Captain America, too, but
Brubaker is writing the character pretty much as "Cap Classic" -- with a
major misstep.

I've not read the book since the end of the Winter Soldier intro storyline, but
THAT would be an interesting turn: if the WS is actually Nomad, but BELIEVES
himself to be the original Bucky.

Well remember, Nomad was terminally ill and going insane. He was having all sorts of hallucinations right before he was killed - by someone dressed in Bucky's costume, even though at the time WS had no memory of being Bucky.

Not exactly. Peter had just been told he was a clone and understandably lost it and attacked Ben Reilly. Mary Jame attempted to seperate them, and was knocked across the room. But Peter had no idea he had done, he was too obsessed with hurting Ben.
I believe thats correct.

The return of Jean Grey comes to my mind as soon as someone mentions stories that should never be told. "Dark Phoenix" was, in my opinion, and apparently a lot of other opinions, one of the greatest superhero stories ever. Undoing it sucked!
