" I feel that a hero is someone who puts the needs of others before their own needs"
I agree with that.

No Rance, you've got it all wrong; they did that for sexual thrills. Or
something.
Joe: you contradict yourself constantly. It's almost funny.
Almost.

"And you cannot grasp the difference between doing
something heroic and being heroic?"
Frankly, I can't either. You can't do something heroic without being
heroic. If your motivations are anything other than heroic, then what you're
doing isn't heroic either. Risky, yes. Heroic, no.

"And how would you describe the "vibe" you get from reading Watchmen and Underground Comix?"
It's that feeling of deep, rich contempt the narrative has for the characters. Like how the old, bald guy raped his secretary because he hadn't had sex with his handicapped wife in years. I get from "Comix" too.

We don't need another hero

You can be someone self-centered who gets a rare sudden impulse to do
the right thing, and sweating the consequences afterwards (and possibly
arguing with himself to do it). (ie: the movie Hero with Dustin Hoffman).
Heroic.
And you can be someone altruistic at heart who never even hesitates to do
the right thing no matter the consequences. (ie: Donner's Superman). Being
Heroic.

Tough guy? Yes joe, whatever you say. I'm just happy not to be the poster
child for everything that's perceived to be wrong with this forum by
outsiders.

So when you refer to Underground Comix, are you reffering to the specific movement that wore that name and was sold in headshops and the like, or are you using the term to refer to a wider range of indie, nons-superhero comics?

Basically, heroic is the adjective while hero / heroine is the noun. I suppose even a villain can act heroically once in his life.
