"  Joe,  in no way was I being disrespectful..if you see it that way, as you seem to...theres nothing I can do about it."

You can also learn to be more respectful.

Stephen: actually , you indirectly implied you wanted it closed by saying you wouldn't mind if it was.  You also said you were beyond caring. You're wanting people to make direct absolute statements and yet don't make them yourself. I honestly belive you aren't here with some agenda, you're not out to Get JB - but even if you don't see it, you are bringing SOMETHING personal to it - while perhaps it'll best to shut this thread down (JB and the Mods call) - hopefully it'll stay up so you can come back in a couple days and reread how what you've said/asked sounds with some distance of time.

Troy, I can definitely see how some of the things Ive said COULD be construed as such. Never my intention, though.
I do sometimes forget how important clear precise language  is on these things..I stand by everything I said, and make  no apologies for them, and certainly several lessons were learned.

So, to be very clear, WHOEVER the moderators are these days..
  Please shut down/remove the thread.

 Thanks, for the input Troy

It's just your tone Sadowski. You come off like a guy in a faded STAR WARS t-shirt who thinks every creator of comics has to think the way you think he should. If JB just did commissions for money and "whored" his talent, well, that's his concern. If he never works on another comic book, that's his concern. I get more from hearing the man talk these days anyway, to talk about people he worked with and comics he worked on IN THE DAY, and I still get to check out his art from that time to this. You're psycho-pop analyzing a guy who has more talent in his pubic hair than a lot of us do in our whole bodies. It just doesn't jibe.

Well I think his "tone" comes across as someone who really enjoys comics and was simply interested in knowing what comics out today that JB likes. Certainly can't blame him for trying.

By the way. I really like the art on your site, Stephen. Excellent stuff.

Good grief!!

Different strokes for different folks!  I think that someone's definition of "good comics" is going to depend a lot on what they cut their teeth on...JB, Stephen, myself...I'm guessing it is a safe bet that we all came up in a different "environment" and have a different yardstick on what we look for and think is "good".  JB's comment on Batman/Captain America and DK2 hit the nail on the head.

...and some folks are clearly just looking for a reason to stir sh*t up, an dhave really derailed the point, which is too bad, because I thought that there were some interesting points that were intended to be raised that went to heck.

Yeesh...

So... if you're still reading, JB, what modern comics do you like?  Several people on this thread mentioned Gibbons' Originals.  I haven't read that one, but I generally like Gibbons' work and might pick it up at some point.  What others?

This thread is still going?

JB, for the love of God...next time you read a good comic or devour a good novel, see a good movie, laugh at a sitcom, dance to a song on the radio or find a good restaurant, could you please share it with the forum????!!!???

Come on, people...let's move on.

Mr. Sadowski,

Welcome to the John Byrne board -- sorry for the "dog-pile" effect.  Seems a lot of us John Byrne fans (myself included) seem to get a bit rabid in defending John Byrne.  I got myself (unfairly, IMO) booted from the Comic Bloc forums for attempting to publicly query Ethan Van Sciver (who was at the time a member of the Byrne Robotics forums) about some snarky remarks he made about John Byrne -- his remarks seemed out-of-character, unprofessional, and it didn't seem to match up with how he had conducted himself here on the Byrne Robotics forums.

Nowadays, when Mr. Byrne's fellow professionals from the comic industry "drop by," I think we all tend to wonder if perhaps we're seeing another "comic professional" attempting to engage in another Ethan Van Sciver-esque "drive-by shooting-off-one's-mouth-because-I'm-a-professiona-and-I-wan t-
to-show-you-all-just-how-much-of-an-asshole-John-Byrne-really -is-and-how-superior-I-am-even-if-I-can't-turn-in-projects-o n-time" sort of thing.

In short, we tend to be a little over-defensive.

You seem like a nice guy, though, and I love your work, so I'd just like to apologize for the over-sensitive mood that seems to be permeating the place at the moment and take a moment to say "Hi."

And, for what it's worth, I was very interested in hearing John Byrne's answer to your question . . . and I think we got it when he pointed to the recent commissions:  I'm pretty sure he was indicating that he misses the super-heroic goodness and "fun" that permeated almost every book in the late '70s and early '80s, back when "Make Mine Marvel!" was a fun AND earnest catch-phrase.

Pax, and keep bringing us more of that fine Stephen Sadowski artwork!  Comics these days need MORE of that good stuff!

:-)

[EDITED because I mis-spelled "Byrne" -- DOH!]
