Matt, to respond to your point a couple of pages back. Maybe my use of the word 'hurt' is a little out of place. What I meant to say was that I love comics and like most people here I have loved comics since I was a child - which for me is the mid to late 70s. However I still find much joy in comics today, both in 'adult' things like Vertigo comics and everything through to kid-friendly super-hero stuff.

I love coming here as I love feeling close ot my favourite comics artist but I just find it a little depressing sometimes to come here and read poster after poster decrying the current state of things. I love JB's work and always will but I don't agree with every word he says. It just feels sometimes that some people on here like to agree with JB on everything purely to 'suck up'. Of course that isn't the case with everyone or at least I hope it isn't.

As for what I'm reading and enjoying right now well, all sorts: Captain America, Daredevil, Fables, Y The Last Man, Usagi Yojimbo, She Hulk, Runaways, 52, Astro City, Thunderbolts, 100 Bullets, Annihilation, Ultimate Spider-Man for starters.

What kind of freaky fish do they have in Finland, Aki? Ours are finger-free.

Good point, Aki.

If you're arguing that fish fingers are better than beef burgers, for
instance, then it's important to clarify what you mean by 'better'. There's
an important difference between arguing whether fish fingers taste
better than beef burgers, on the one hand, and whether fish fingers
or beef burgers are better for your health, on the other. One
comparitive is subjective while the other is objective. Everyone should get
the terms of discussion straight before getting bogged down in
misunderstandings founded on linguistic and logical ambiguity.

"Who are these 'some' and 'same', Wallace?"

I don't think Wallace was talking about you, Darragh.

Michael, I knew you were drawing inferences from his posts, and I can see
how some of what he wrote could be read in a number of different ways.
My inference is that Stephen's posts lack clarity because he doesn't
possess good writing skills (sorry, Stephen!), and so I take that into
account when trying to interpret what he means. I think his explanation
of the 'I should have known better' assertion a few pages back proves that
he can be misinterpreted.

And, hey, if your posts didn't matter, Michael, I wouldn't have pulled you
up on it! Pax.

I believe the term is 'digitally enhanced'. Oho!

'Fish sticks?'

'I wish it would peel off already.'

Too much coffee.

Wallace Sellars: I really enjoyed rereading the issues presented in the most recent ESSENTIAL CAPTAIN AMERICA volume.  The John Romita. Sr. work was especially impressive.

I had no idea that Romita Sr. had worked on CAPTAIN AMERICA, so it was a most pleasant surprise to flip through the ESSENTIAL when it recently arrived and discover this.  In addition to the mighty praise I give the ESSENTIAL line whenever I can, I'll also say it's introduced me to the works of artists on characters I never realized they did.

You're right, Joe.  I wasn't.

Roger (or anyone else who may know), did the senior Romita provide artwork for the ESSENTIAL MS. MARVEL volume?

JB says-As with everything -- or almost everything -- I write, I tried to make my Superman stories "layered", so that readers who came back to them a few years, or even decades, after their first reading would find elements to the story that they had not noticed before.   This is what I would define as an "All-Ages" approach, rather than adult or "grown-up".

I call it for "universal" audiences. I hold such art in very high regard, which is one reason why I hold your art in such high regard.

True adventure is neither grown-up nor aimed at little kiddies, but inhabits a sort of magical place betwixt the two. This is where comic books used to try to go. To appeal to people of virtually any age, but to have special appeal to young people, especially young people who are INTELLIGENT.

In film media, I think the same sort of universal audience appeal has been reached by the original Star Wars trilogy, classic Star Trek, E.T., and the Indiana Jones films. It takes a special balance and talent to make something that can appeal to and excite universal age groups.

Sadowski, is your website still under construction, or is it SUPPOSED to look like that?
