Cockrum certainly did some exceptional work - Legion of Super-Heroes, Avengers, X-Men, (where he took part in creating characters like Nightcrawler, Storm, Thunderbird and Colossus), the Futurians and Star Trek - and he was one of my favorite artists and inkers, and was the artist for my favorite comic - Giant-Size Avengers #2.

It's ironic that his name came up here yesterday regarding his cover art.  His style of art and character design was unique and he'll be missed.

Oh my God. My heart goes out to his family. When I read this my mouth dropped.

RIP Dave, you'll be missed.

I met Dave Cockrum for the first time this past summer at HeroesCon.  I must admit that he did not look well at all.  His illnesses had  obviously taken a great toll on him.  But he smiled, laughed and talked non-stop with everyone all day.   I'm so glad that I took the time to meet and talk with him for the few minutes that I did.
