It's hard to hear this news. Several years back, he was at the Mid Ohio Con, and did a 1 hour meet and greet with his fans. He was very appreciative of our admiration and seemed to be a happy and gentle soul. I am extremely grateful I had a chance to meet Mr. Cockrum.

I've met him twice in the last three years. Two years ago he was very sickly and understandably out of sorts. I met him again last summer and he looked great, he seemed in good spirits. As far as I could tell, he was on the upswing, which made this news all the more shocking.

My favorite part of the Nightcrawler Limited Series was Cretaceous Sam: "Well, don't just lay there making sitty-prints in the dirt. Stand UP, so's I can BLAST ya!"

So many memories, so many truly wonderful comics. We've lost another of the greats.
RIP.

This is sad news, especially given his age. Dave is one of the artist I grew up with. He will be missed. My best to his family.
R.I.P. Dave....

Without my knowing it, his artwork was some of the first I remember copying as a youngster. I remember laying on my bedroom floor, blue biro in hand (it was hard to find black biros where I lived for some reason!) doing my copies of various New X-Men.
Rest in Peace Mr Cockrum.

Very sad news. His work on X-Men, Legion of Super Heroes and Nightcrawler were some of the best comics ever produced.
RIP
