JB, How much of a detailed request did you get from the customer?*** The commission was for Batman & Robin, along with the four villains, on a rooftop, lightning in the sky, Batman and Ra's fighting with swords.

I am very surprised by how this came out! Great composition!
The look on Catwoman's face...
Two-Face's double-barrelled gun...
The swashbuckling pose of the duelling pair...
Very happy customer here, JB! More than I can put in words!
Edited to remove Ben Grimm quote...not flattering enough!

that version of Catwoman alongside Ra's al Ghul, for instance -- it doesn't quite fit the GENERATIONS timeline, either. +++++
I like to think that, by then, Selina was Mrs. Wayne!

You guys see Aparo but when I first saw the piece the name Kubert came to me. +++++++
Will look for Kubert.
And if ever proof was needed that JB outgrew Neal Adams...

I would have kissed the buyer had he chosen to include my favorite: Batgirl! +++++++++++
Narrow escape, Marc!
I was tempted to ask for the Huntress. But I like the Helena Wayne character, and her inclusion would've entailed a "Crisis of two Gotham Cities".

JB: Multiple villains present two main challenges:
first, placing them in the shot such that they all get "equal screen
time", and second, finding a way for them to be more or less "in
character" in a single pose. This one works fairly well on both counts, I think. +++++
Absolutely!
And Catwoman screeches for her own solo piece...

JB, would you consider taking on Batman as a monthly art job?

Two-Face looks like a real nutcase and the Joker looks like death on two legs. Ra's outstretched left arm and hand look brilliant. In fact, hands are terrific in this piece. Catwoman's are just delightful. Dick Sprang whimsy distilled.

I'd say Dick Sprang whimsy distilled through Jim Aparo dynamism, as only JB
can produce. The more I look on it, the more this becomes my favorite
commission piece. I'm guessing it'll be a while before this one gets topped
for me.

I spent the last couple of days browsing through The Untold Legend of Batman, in which JB and Aparo team up on the art chores. One of my all-time favorite books.
Didn't get me quite ready for this, let me tell you!
