While I'm all for new talent and moving forward, Marvel in its present state is wholly unrecognizable.  Better to have "retreads" that are faithful to the core Marvel characters and concepts than "new ideas" that utterly betray the first 30-odd years of the company's existence.

Gregg -- Don't get me wrong, I would buy those titles if any of those creators returned to those characters, but I don' t think it will ever happen.  As the cliche goes:  you cannot go home again.  It wouldn't even be fair to ask JB and the others to retrace their steps just because the present is so dismal.  You're right though, I feel as if Marvel has been betrayed by usurpers who just don't "get it" and probably don't give a damn beyone wanking their own creative egos.

Geez, there are only so many artists who fit into the category of delivering consistent, on-time monthly work much less being a great story-teller..Surely we can figure this out with our collective brain.
Not JB (as he has told us). JR JR seems to be a good guess.  Unless that other rumor regarding it being someone who has not worke dunder the Joe Q regime.
My official guess is that the new artist is merely Mark Bagley, but he will now be credited as Ultimate Mark Bagley or The New Mark Bagley.

Not just exclusive, but I believe "exclusive for life."  Though I might be thinking of a different artist.....

As much as I would love to see Byrne back at Marvel, I'm glad it won't be as an art-robot on Ultimate Spider-Crap.

fan favorite artist and this person has a reputation for being one of the best storytellers in the business and does it consistently and monthly.

It's funny how few comic book artists that applies to.

If it's Tom Grummett I'll have to think about picking it up.  He's been one of my favorites since I started reading comics.

Great job, comic industry.  When the EIC at Marvel uses the qualifiers "consistently and monthly" to (unwittingly, I presume) reduce the field of artist possibilities on a title, then some sort of nadir has been reached, no? Oh wait, I forgot, this is just me being an out-of-touch dinosaur.  Sorry.  Everything's great again.

While I for one enjoy the Ultimate titles, I'm with you on this one. But mostly because I'd prefer not to see JB as an "art-robot" on anything. The man's simply too good at telling stories from scratch, so having him on any book just as artist (great as he is) is somewhat of a waste.
That said, if I ever wrote a comic, JB is definitely one of the artists I'd love to work with on the art side. But pipe-dreams aside... let the man write as well as draw. :)

My penny!

What's the point in hinting so strongly that it is JB though? Wouldn't this lead to more disappointed customers than anything else? Seems like a very bad sales tactic, IMHO.

The way it all comes out, though, is a game that Quesada's played before.

When/if called on it, he'll turn on the innocence and say, "I didn't hint that it might be Byrne.  Newsarama did.  I simply said that I could neither confirm nor deny, because we're not ready to make the announcement yet."
