Yeah, mine too.
Actually it's from one of the first 3D images I made that I remained pleased with.
IMP.

People can steal your identity if you use a picture of yourself as an avatar?
YIKES!
Is this like how taking a photograph steals a part of your soul?

Great idea for a thread, Jo. I often find myself wondering about the significance and origin of certain avatars.
Mine is a head shot of Captain Benjamin Sisko, commanding officer the titular space station in STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE. It's a show I liked (and continue to like, thanks to some overpriced DVDs).
That idea about changing avatars at 1,000 posts sounds interesting. Hmmm...

Mine is an old picture of "Classy" Freddie Blassie, and my previous one was of Blackjack Mulligan, which I may return to soon.

My avatar is based on Barry Ween, Boy Genius which was a series of mini-series by Judd Winick. It's a fun series if you can deal with the profanity uttered by the kids.

I sought only to combine my love of little black ducks and Latin American musical numbers.

Mine is the Rowdy One...Roddy Piper.
Why, because I like pro wrestling and Piper was one of my favorites growing up. I've had it for a while now and may change it if I see come across something else that appeals to me.

Frank:
Don't change it! I've come to actually think of you as Benjamin Sisko. Such
a great shot, and full of attitude. That, and I'm grateful for your drawing
attention to the most criminally underrated SF show of all time, DS9!

While someone told me in chat that they thought that mine was a floating Groucho mask, it's graphic of a pic of Vince Guaraldi, the jazz pianist who did all the music for the Peanuts TV specials until his way-too-young death in 1976.

I usually go with something from the first six issues of Jack Kirby Hulk. I've been fascinated with avatar searching. I'd love to find the perfect thing. Sometimes I want to use John Jefferson's "Sports Illustrated" shot (San Diego wide receiver who wore cool ass goggles on-field, Hall of Famer or should be), but the football season is kind of weird and sucky so far, so I'm not celebrating it.
Currently, in honor of Halloween, I chose the great Oliver Reed in mid-transformation from one of the great Hammer films, CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF.
