Just reread the issue in question.
Stephane, you are right that there were other ways to get rid of the cops. However, in this early stage of his career I think Batman is looking to do everything he can to ensure that he is feared. Notice how he seems pleased that he is seen as enough of a threat that these cops would try to kill him. He isn't looking to make a soft and easy exit - he's looking to cause some bumps, bruises and maybe broken bones to make a mark on the cops as well as his new ward.
Is it the traditional Batman? No. Is he flawed? Definitely. A hero? Hard to tell with only three issues out.
Then again, I'm from the same continent that thought Arnie shooting a cop in the knee with the explanation of "he'll live" was heroic humor at its best, so what do I know?
(Added: Personally that is one of my least favorite scenes in Terminator 2)

With chance the frontal choc between a car and a motorcycle will cause enough "bruises" on the motorcycle cop to impress his coleagues.

You have GOT to be kidding. All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder has only made it to issue #3?? Does it take longer because of the length of the title, maybe??

Issue 4 may have snuck out, truth be told I stopped looking, Dave. Can someone else clarify?
That title is a tad long, though.

Issue 4 was just resolicited for November 29. Late November, appropropriately enough. I'll beleive it when I see it.

Good lord. To further add to delays, hasn't Jim Lee signed on to one of the Wildstorm relaunch titles too?

I'll be really curious as to whether or not this ALL-STAR concept has legs. BATMAN AND ROBIN is incredibly late. ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, a book I really enjoy, is now months late. ALL-STAR WONDER WOMAN, as per threads on this board, won't be solicited until 12 issues are in the can which is a good thing. But relating all of this to a chat conversation we had on Saturday night, the delays and wait between arcs of ASTRO CITY have lessened my excitement for the series, so much so that I'm dropping it. That sense of wonder that I had when it was coming out on a somewhat regular schedule is gone due in large part to waiting so long. I wonder if that same wait will, in the end, have an adverse affect on the ALL-STAR line such that people will forget, get bored with, get angry at, the interminable wait between issues of the only two series in the line.

Matt, it definitely diminished my curiousity. When I see new issues show up I have no idea what happened before, if the previous issue ended on a cliffhanger, or so on. I'd probably get the trade if I saw it, but any enthusiasm for the "monthlies" is pretty well gone.

Correction: there are 4 issues of ASBARTBW out. Issue 5 was resolicited for November. Not much happened in #4, though. There was an sextuple (?) page splash of the Batcave interior, so they spent over a quarter of the book on one panel. It looked pretty, though.

Matthew, you're right. Der, I even looked up the solicitation, too. I guess since there were about twelve pages of story in that issue, it might explain how I forgot it had already came out.

For somebody that seems to really hate Grant
Morrison's work, Jason Fulton's got a nice collection
of it, doesn't he?
