Batman Year One is one of the best Batman stories ever, and one of my all time favorite comics. I like very much the first part of DKR (with Two Face) too. The 3 other parts of DKR are decent, but i don't care much about them.
DK2 on the other hand is crap. All Star is about a psychopath who is no way like Batman, excepted for the costume & the gadgets.

"In the same issue, he also goes on and on about "taking six issues of story to say nothing" - I took it to be similar to the interviews he does, where he talks about how much he loves superheroes, and then he writes a book trashing them."
Trashing superheroes in Animal Man? I disagree. Can't speak for all of his work though.

Chad said, "For all intents and purpose, Batman killed the Joker."
I disagree. The police were moments away. The Joker has come back from worse (falling to his death).
Unless Batman physically ended his life, I don't think you can say he killed the Joker in this scenario.

A 'psychopath'? Why, Stephane?

We already talked about that Darragh.
All Star Bats aims at motor-cycle cops with the Batmobil.

Aren't they corrupt cops who were trying to kill a young boy?

Well, Batman breaks his neck, while being stabbed nearly to death.
*****
Joker breaks his own neck. The whole point is that he wants Batman to be blamed for his death even though he didn't do it.

Ah, now I remember that discussion, Stephane; but back to this one,
driving at the cops and killing them are two different things. Where is the
evidence that Batman i) aimed to murder them, and ii) killed any of them?

And like i said at the time, even if he didn't intend to murder them, a man who aims at motorcycle cops don't care if they survive or not.
Such a man is a criminal.

By that logic, you can say that as a vigilante, Batman is a criminal anyway. I tned to think Batman saw it as a calculated risk in which trained police would be able to survive. I don;t think he;d lose sleep for their injuries, though.
There are loads of examples of characters in comics, TV, and movies doing dangerous things to pull off a great rescue or escape. In the real world, lives would probably be lost. In the land of make believe, the generally are not, UNLESS the creator makes a point of showing the loss of life.
Consider how many people would really be injured of killed by a super-hero brawl in a big city, by a building that got a car thrown into it, by high-speed chases. If we dwell on whether or not the heroes cared if the innocent bystanders survived, we'd get bogged down a lot. Some stories do make a point of showing that there are survivors, that the heroes are interetsed in checking who is safe. Others do not.
Don't get me wrong - there are aspects of the title I don't care for (the terminal lateness, the fact that there was an issue so early on focusing so much on Black Canary, the cheesecake), but I don;t get the feeling of Batman being a murderer.

I don't think a person who aims at people with his car is an hero.
What an exemple!
This scene in issue #2 is really shocking because Batman didn't need to do that to get ride of the cop. That was the easy way, the bad way.
That would have been in character for the Joker, not for Batman.
