I see the ALL STAR title as a sort of parody. Do you know the Rugrats? The series where everything is seen under the point of view of little children.
Well, sometimes ALL STAR BATMAN seems to me a sort of Rugrats where we see Batman as Dick sees him. I like it, but... It's not what I wanted for this title (i.e. what, I think, Morrison and Dini are doing in BATMAN and DETECTIVE).

Having enemies mock the name of a superhero group doesn't seem quite as
damning as having the heroes mock their own conventions themselves. =================================
But the point being made by some in this discussion is that in the world of superheroes there's absolutely nothing weird about putting on a costume or calling your group the Avengers. Having a villain mock those conventions isn't any more acceptable than having a hero do it.
Again, the point to me here is that making a stupid, unfunny jab at a predictable target might be kind of boring - but it doesn't have to be indicitive of a lack of love for superheroes - or at least it isn't to me. But I'll admit I'd never try to set myself up as the final arbiter of who loves superheroes the right way and who doesn't.

Sure it is. Villians are the Bad Guys.

In All*Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder, Batman does not kidnap the newly orphaned Dick, but rescues him from the murderous clutches of the corrupt GCPD. As to eating rats, Batman is testing Dick's resolve and character, for although he had already had his eye on Dick for months as a potential recruit, his hand has been forced by the murder of the young boy's parents, so he is proving the boy's physical and mental toughness in a time of extreme crisis.
So it's good after all!!! That was a close one, it all seemed so out of character!

Does anyone in the real world mock the athletes for the "costumes"/uniforms they wear? Of course not. Sure, if an athlete was standing in a grocery line in full uniform, he would get weird looks, but while said athlete is in his world, his element, doing his job, no one points out that they are dressed different than the norm.
I think this is how Superheroes and their costume works in their world. If someone dressed as Batman, walked in to a Wallmart, picked up a cart and started shopping, there would be reason to mock him, because he would be out of place. Now, The Batman, doing what Batman does: Beating villains, seeking clues, or even advising the police, this is Batman in his element, doing his job. I doubt anyone would even think of mocking him.

'Blazing Saddles' analogy may have fallen a bit flat, but what about 'Unforgiven'? Does Clint Eastwood hate Westerns, because both Munny and Little Bill relentlessly pour scorn on the notion of the heroic gunslinger?
Is Clint Eastwood playing an established cowboy charcater from another movie that has a tradition of being a heroic gunslinger ? And are they talking about the "legend" of his heroics saying the truth is that they are lies ? Is this movie the directors way of looking back at the previous movies and saying, You know this guy was never a hero ?
Batman is Batman, he is a hero, the costume envokes fear and to openly mock it belies the point of everything he does. If he was to jump out of the shadows and people bust into laughter everytime then I dont think that's the point of being a crime fighter. But they dont, they havn't because it is the genre. I dont mind Morrison going and creating his own little world somewhere else and belittling comic book heroes. But why does he insist on coming onto regular series and do it ? It's annoying, it's insulting and if he feels that way...STOP WRITING ESTABLISHED COMIC BOOKS !
