No joke. If you're a big enough fan, you can do whatever you want with whoever you want once you get into the biz. It's like a kid dreaming of working in Disney's animation department, just so he can insert genitalia into the background of the movies.

So for the enrichment and enjoyment of adults, chances should be taken with the well-being of children. Strikes me as a profoundly degenerate attitude.

You can do a google image search for lots of ordinary topics and pull up some kind of pornographic material.  Moore and Top Shelf has produced an adult work for adults.  The impetus is on parents to protect their children from objectionable material.

Agreed that the impetus always is on parents to protect children. But I think the issue here - and what has so many people upset - is that Moore has taken characters specifically intended for children and used them in a pornographic story.

At least that's what bothers me. If a company wants to do an adult-oriented title using new characters or characters who already are established as adult-oriented characters, that's fine and I doubt we would even be discussing it.

****

Parents cannot keep an eye on their kids 24/7. In any case, this is not the issue. This is about respect for the intent of authors, living or dead. How many here, I wonder, busily defending Moore's rights, would squawk loudly if someone optioned WATCHMEN and turned it into a kiddy story, with songs and fuzzy animals?

This thread is officially too depressing. That there are people who would defend Moore on any grounds just adds to my overall sense of having wasted 30 years of my life.

End of thread.
