I never saw Peter Parker and Spider-man as separate characters in that Peter had a crappy life and Spidey had a wonderful life.

Here's a tip -- if you have to exagerate the two ends of the spectrum in order to make your point, your point is invalid.

No one is suggested Parker and Spider-Man (that M is capitalized, by the way) are "two separate characters". Rather, as originally portrayed, Spider-Man was a way for Peter to escape from the drudgery of his daily life. Not to escape far, nor for very long -- "With great power must also come great responsibility." -- but nevertheless something he could do that wasn't all about Aunt May, or Liz/Betty/Gwen/MJ, or school, or money, or whatever.

I kinda saw Spider-Man as Stress-relief for Peter. Hence all the snappy-one-liners. He exuded a much more fun and carefree persona as Spider-Man than as the "World-on-my-shoulders" Parker!

Tip and point taken. It is true that being Spider-Man as originally envisaged was an escape, though as you note not for long or very far, from being Peter and all that entailed but now from what I can see as the character has "developed" over the years, it is almost impossible to separate them especially considering everyone and his brother appears to know Peter is Spider-Man, making any distinction pointless.

I hadn't noticed them before either.

"These days? Short answer: Spider-Man."

That's a good point too.

JB draws an amazing (er... sorry) Spider-Man. This is perhaps one of my favorite "shots" of him in action.

I'm not sure exactly when it happened -- arguably as early as when Peter started college -- but when Peter Parker began to have a "normal" life and Spider-Man was all that was wrong with it, the character took a fatal misstep.

What I loved about the early Lee/Ditko stories is that he's pretty much still a loser as Peter Parker. He's not popular. He still has to deal with Flash Thompson. I don't know how I can relate to him if he's dating golden girl Gwen Stacy.

That is my all-time favorite shot of Spider-Man. Bad coloring and all.

JB (And all of you too) do you have a theory why fans don't like Aunt May? I
always look at her like the heart of Spider-Man life. There where moment of
wisdom, of courage, of tenderness and above all love. I always cared about
the character but then I found that most of the younger fans didn't like her
and always claim for her blood... Is that a generational thing?
