One thing I've always wondered about the Hulk is where the whole "Madder he gets/Stronger he gets" thing came from.
I wonder if it was a throw away line that Stan used at some point,
which evolved into a "power" that was taken literally. Does anyone know
when/where this line first appeared?

I've liked a lot of interprertation sof the Hulk, bu t I gott second the
comment that Sal Buscema owns the hulk in my view. It is the image that
comes to mind of him whenever I think of him.

Ed Deans:
Maybe you're oticing the Rubenstien influence from the inking.
Those Kirby covers are so UN Detailed that they give me a sense of another world, a world I could, maybe, escape into for a half hour and fill my mind with wonderful, exciting fantasy.
Today's stories are so mired in my own reality I would rather not be reminded.

I don't have a clue about the sizes in your units, to me a foot is
like a foot, since that's how it was declared to begin with, measuring
peoples feet outside a church. My personal height is about 1.90 metres
and I believe both of them, Thing and Hulk are taller than me, and I
strongly believe Mr. Byrne is taller than me, based on your
descriptions, since I don't decode your inch system very well. When I
was a kid the Curt Swan Superman was described to be 1.85 meters (about
my height) and with his spine compressed he was 1.77 as Clark Kent. The
Jack Kirby versions of Thing and Hulk are to me the right sizes.
Edited some spelling errors.

I pretty much love the Thing being about the same height as Mister Fantastic, maybe a tad shorter, and the Hulk being about a head and a half taller. For some reason, the 10-12 foot Hulk just looks too tall. The same with the Thing. When he's drawn 7 feet tall or so, he just doesn't look right to me. The Hulk seems a little more frightening when he's drawn more bulky and shorter, around 7 feet tall. By short I mean as opposed to the 10 foot and over versions.

Lars, cm to inches search in google and you get this useful site:
http://www.manuelsweb.com/in_cm.htm
Also, this link provides a height transformation table, rather useful for us meter/cm guys.

I remember when JB drew Ben in the back of a taxi and he took up almost the entire seat, he was so broad. Then, of course, it gets sliced in half by Terrax.

When I was on FANTASTIC FOUR I used to say the the Thing was about 5'10" -- measured in any direction! As to the Hulk -- well, as some of you know, I have a life-sized model of Gort, from "The Day the Earth Stood Still" upstairs in my front hall, and as I often comment to surprised guests, you really have no idea how tall an 8 ft tall robot is until you're standing in front of him! I have no real problem with the Hulk having gotten bigger over the years -- tho I do miss the "slab like" form of his early days, as opposed to the ripped version we see today -- but anything over 7 feet is started into get way too big -- especially when we consider what this does to his other dimentions.

In the Hulk Ultimate Destruction video game they have the Hulk at 12 feet tall... Which is interesting because I have never heard of that height used before...
I think they make him too big now even if for artistic licenses sake it looks really cool...
