Seriously, is there a single Marvel book that's as good or better than it was 20 years ago?

For my money, there is 20, no, 50 times more story and action 20 years ago than today in a Marvel (M****l) comic.

OK, now here's my question....are their message boards (and other gathering spots) where people priase MARVEL and think all this crap is totally "kewl"?  There MUST be or MARVEL would be out of business.  Other than the seemingly 1 or 2% of people here in the JBF that try to defend this stuff I never hear anything remotely positive about MARVEL.*

*Unless you count Stan Lee's occassional gushing fan letter which honestly makes me feel sick to my stomach.

The eyeball gouge is not even original.  SPOILERS for Kill Bill:  The writer must have been watching Kill Bill Vol. 2 on late night and gotten the idea from Quentin Tarrantino's script.

By the way, there's a kewl monologue about comic books in the end of Kill Bill Vol. 2.

Regarding the eyeball sushi, their response is "best. issue. ever."

I stopped reading MARVEL comics just about a year ago now....I just realized how I feel about them when I hear these little updates.

It's like having been in a serious relationship with someone for several years and then realizing things aren't working out....you go through a really tough separation time but you still genuinely care about the other person and wish them the best.  Even though you don't have direct contact with them anymore you hear about them through mutual acquaintences and are saddened by the poor decisions they are making and the bad things that are happening to their life....you wish you could do something to help, but it's not your responsibility any more.

I still feel saddened when I hear updates like this about Spider-Man, I wish I could help....but it's not my problem anymore.

I just realized a bit or irony....shouldn't the current editors and writers of Spider-Man realize that With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility?

Well, I did send Joe Quesada an e-mail expressing my dissappointment in the way his direction has led MARVEL.  I even got a response.

I didn't save it.  It was a fairly straight forward letter.  I basically said that I was extremely disappointed with the direction most of the characters and Spider-Man specifically had taken since he became EiC.  I told him that I had been a life-long Spider-Man fan but would no longer be purchasing MARVEL comics and "Sins Past" had been the last straw for me.  He replied that he was sorry about my decision to no longer read MARVEL comics but felt that the characters were going in a positive direction and something to the effect that "some people will like it and some people won't".

At the time I had received Quesada's response I think I posted it on here.  I tried to use the search function for the JBF with no success. Does anyone else have trouble with the search function?  It simply does not work for me....I get a slow-loading blank screen every time.  It used to work but hasn't for MONTHS.  Every other part of the JBF works fine.  Oh well.  Maybe someone can search for my letter!  I would look for "Joe Quesada", "sins past" and maybe the word "e-mail" or "letter".

Thanks,

Joe

OK, here's my response to whoever it was above that defended this maiming of Spider-Man by saying it should have "long-lasting" effects:

Wrong.  It just means someday another writer will have to write a corny story about how Peter was able to grow back his eyeball.... or how it wasn't really Peter it was a clone/actor/alien....or how SHIELD or Mr. Fantastic was able to create a synthetic eyeball that is just as good as a real one so there's no need to reference it anymore.

No one at MARVEL seems to get the idea that they are playing with other peoples' toys....they continue to break them.....I believe more than ever that soon there will be no toys to play with and no one to really care about it anyway.

I have a great idea, there's the being called the anti-monitor and he's destroying all the universes in marvel, the ultimate, knights and regular universe and when he's done all the history will be started over again.

He's worn an eye patch before in an early issue of Spider-Man by Eric Larson
with guest hero Deathlock. I'm more stunned by the summary of Spider-Man
having mutated into a giant spider and given birth to himself with organic
webshooters and an ability to communicate with bugs.

Edit: Hey! It's the same eye.
