Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I have enjoyed it so far, I guess you didn't Joe. I'm assuming here that you have read all 7 issues of the Other, Joe. I didn't think for a moment that these books were in anyway a gross violation of Spider-man. I think you are being unfair to the creators involved. PAD's three issues were very good; Hudlin's first two were a bit patchy but the third was fine; JMS first issue was fantastic. Deodato and Wieringo were good on their respective issues, not so sure about Pat Lee.

I'm referring to what occurred on the last three pages of Amazing
Spider-Man #526, a physical copy of which I have next to me.
Spider-Man's eye is torn out and eaten, he is beaten to death. That's
rape.

So ^^***** still hires that bastard who cheated a lot of people out of
their money in the Dreamwave incident. More reasons for me to never
pick up this story (like I needed more reasons).

Peter Sanderson, for those who don't know, was Marvel's "continuity cop" for many years, and I believe performed a similar function for DC at one time. He apparently is a lurker here.
Great column, by the way. He and I are on exactly the same wavelength.
To me, most mainstream superhero comics have some pretty awesome art, but the writing is almost universally drek. I'm finding myself turning more and more toward independent comics. The art's not as good, but there's some wonderful storytelling.

"Pardon my ignorance, but what is the Dreamwave incident?"
Pat Lee's studio Dreamwave declared bankruptcy, amidst complaints
from several freelancers that they had not yet been paid for work
completed. In the wake of that, he formed a new company called
Dream Engine. Trying to state this as neutrally as I can: Some feel
that he moved the assets from his company to himself so that he
could restart his company while avoiding payment to those he owed.

"Great" may be the wrong word. How bout noteworthy? Memorable? Controversial? So shocking people have spent hours debating it on message boards?
++++++++++++++++++++++++
Thomas, "shocking" and "controversial" are not the right ingredients. As for "memorable", so is the clone saga!
If I write a story in which Batman suddenly decides that he wants to become a woman and performs a surgery becoming a transexual, I would have everyone, including my parents who have read zero comics in their life, talking about it. Is this reason enough to do it?

sea before You stop waving it at...

Happens all the time.

If they can prove it, they should have. The assets would have been returned to the original company.

"The Other" is about the rape of Spider-Man. ***
That's simply inflammatory silliness.
