Kneel before Zod is one of the lines my friends and I use all the time.  and "Oh God". "Zod".

Rob, those are great lines!

I also love it when Zod says to Luthor, "Why do you say this, when you know I will kill you for it?"

Just the right mix of arrogance and disbelief that some has the nads to address him in an undignified manner.

And I love the fact he is now Jor-El on Smallville.

Including an expandable plastic "S" shield.
------------------------------------------------------------ -

Anybody see the Family Guy episode that made fun of this?  That scene was recreated...Superman threw the 'S' shield and it captured Non and then faded away (just as it happened in the movie).  Superman then walks up to Non and says, "How about that, huh?"  Non, perplexed, says, "Well, that was...a mild inconvenience."

I still don't understand the magic plastic shield bit. Probably the stupidest part of the movie.

I suppose I'm in the minority here, but I think Superman 2 is a really bad movie. Yes, much of that is due to Lester's contempt for superheroes (and arguably America itself, given the whole Zod against the hillbillies scene).

Major Problems:

Superman would not abandon the human race -- even without knowing about Zod -- for his own gains. The film shows no deliberation over this major decision. I also found it kind of odd that Superman even has to ask his long-dead parents for permission to date

The non-powered Superman is pathetic. The film seems to imply that everything that makes him Superman is all in his powers. Even SMALLVILLE depicts a non-powered Clark who is still heroic. And *Superman* beating up the redneck when he's fully powered (and most likely putting him in the hospital). Ick. C'mon, Peter Parker never repaid Flash Thompson in kind after he became Spider-Man and this is SUPERMAN we're talking about.

The restoration of Clark's powers is also a huge plothole (yes, they lost Brando, but since they subbed in Lara, I don't know why they couldn't have had her fill the same role).

Stephen, when I was a child, I loved "Superman II" and thought it was better than "Superman: The Movie." As I grew older I realized that the first movie was far superior. While I still enjoy many things in "Superman II," there are those other things, many of which you point out, that annoy me now.

I don't know what the deal is, but both movie and TV writers always want to add to Superman's powers. I mean, doesn't he already have enough established powers in the comics to choose from? And why do Kryptonians in the films have telekinetic beams and can project images of themselves?

Oh Geez....the telekinetic beams from the fingertips.  Horrible.

I have refused to watch Superman III and IV since they were released theatrically.  Did they give him any new ridiculous new powers?

I used to rank Superman 2 ahead of Superman. But I was a much younger man when I did so. If I saw either again, I might change my mind, for many of the reasons discussed. The magic plastic shield has always bugged me.

No new powers in III that I can recall. I have never watched IV.
