Ditto what Matt said.  She would have made a great Lois Lane though.

She also doesn't come off as "warrior" to me.

I think if an actor can do "serious", can make me believe he or she is willing to, say, kill -- as Kate's done on LOST -- then they'd probably have the chops to pull off a warrior type.

(sidebar: I never really watched the old WONDER WOMAN and only know it through clips, but did Linda Carter seem particularly "warrior"? The word isn't fitting what little I remember of her portrayal, which was more broadly "hero" ala Chris Reeve's Superman.)

As for the short thing, I guess there's no way around it. What height are you guys thinking is ideal? I hear LOST-girl is 5'5" or 5'6".

Check the comics when WW stands next to Superman and you'll get an idea of how tall she should be.

Someone who can kill doesn't equate "warrior" to me.  Neither does someone who can pull off "serious".  Meryl Streep can do both, but I don't think she'd have been a good fit for WW in her prime. You also can't compare a 1970s television show that went through several iterations with what should be an iconic portrayal of the character in film.

Plus, whoever does it needs a substantial rack (c'mon, somebody needed to say it, you know it's true)

Just gimme a number! We're talking a real-world actress here, so let's use real-world numbers and not the whims of artists. We talkin' 5'9"? 6'? Taller?

And the tough thing with Wonder Woman is the question of what consitutes an "iconic portrayal". Me, I want the Perez version - Ray Harryhausen meets superheroes - but Byrne's take was a much more traditionally superhero one, while for many the '70s show is the iconic take, campiness and all. And hell, half the time I hear folks imagining the movie, they're just visualizing a softcore flick with a superhero theme...

Is Whedon still attached to this? I know he'll give a certain amount of respect to the character, but I can seem him going too quippy as well.

9 times out of 10 it's not the whims of an artist.  I've never seen one artist have her stand next to Superman and make her look 5' 2" and another artist make her look 6' 1".  She's almost always proportionally drawn as several inches shorter than Superman, she's an Amazon, so she should be tall.  Doesn't sound too difficult to grasp.  I'd say 5' 10" - 6' tall. Oh yeah, and I agree with Wayne.  She's gotta have a rack.

I'm hoping for a tall greek woman...although it's hard to find a tall, busty greek actress. Alexa Davalos, Jennifer Aniston, and Angie Harmon are all at least part Greek, although none of them look just right for the part.

Sadly, it's possible to find many models who look the part, but I can't think of any actresses who look the part.

Another tricky casting aspect is that she has to look like a princess (regal, gorgeous) yet also like an Amazonian warrior. I often see people recommend actresses who fit one category but not the other.

She should be the type of woman whose height *and* beauty you should notice -- a definite head turner.

But we'll probably just get Jessica Alba.

tsk tsk tsk Have you forgotten already, guys? Adam Hughes notwithstanding (and that is not a knock), Wonder Woman is not all in the chest. As a girlfriend once pointed out to me, it is the narrow waist that makes the WW costume work. Lynda Carter, of course, had both, big boobs and a narrow waist -- which is why the costume worked so spectacularly well on her.

I am sure Eliza Dushku would look great in the suit -- but she'd also look like Wonder Woman's kid sister.

A blonde Wonder Woman?

Well, since Whedon doesn't want to do the suit. . .

Yeah, but, whatever you do, don't use The New Frontier for your comparison.  I read somewhere that Darwin Cooke (sp?) deliberately made the Amazon taller than Superman to make her more physically imposing.  And' that just ain't right...
