In fairness to Nelson, my understanding is that that panel was changed as an editorial decision. I don't know anything more about it, but that's what I was told.

I admit some of this whizzes right by me, so I'm semi-ignorant, but I think the end result is that the book looks fabulous. Definitely one of the best-looking books out there right now.  And that's all because of John, Nelson and Guy.

After seeing the pencils I have to say I wish Byrne was doing the inking.  It is going to take some getting used to for me.  I have an eerie feeling of Kirby's heads being changed by Murphy Anderson or Al Plastino in Jimmy Olsen.  I'd prefer Ordway, by a long shot, over Nelson.  I agree it takes time for the artist/inker team to gel so we'll see.  That last page -- WOW on the pencils.

Here's just my speculation: the editor is asking the inker to change JB's art to look more like the styles of other pencillers.

Joe, sorry, I totally misread this post the first time when I responded to it.  Note to self--stop taking crack before reading posts--

Well in any case, as I said before, I hope a happy medium can be found.
Outright replacing Nelson would be throwing out the baby with the
bathwater, I think.

I like the slight blur effect on Zoom.
Another fine issue.

Very good issue.  This is the Superman book I have been looking for.  It smokes everything out there in my opinion.

The finished pages looked more like JB's art.  I liked the inking last issue too. But this time not as much seemed completely redrawn.  I'll wait to see the pencils.  The colors and paper were excellent.  A real state of the art looking book.

JB is not doing the writing for this book.  So I can't count on being clued in on who some of the characters are.  That having been said, will there be any recaps that tell who that Black Adam guy and that Flash/look-alike were?  If not, does anyone know about these guys' backgrounds?  You can't always count on the writers to fill you in these days, you know.  For example I read Superman/Batman and I always see tons of cameos of vaguely familiar characters, who are seldom explained.  I grew up a Marvel Zombie so you can imagine how little DC comics lore I know.

Funny, when discussing this with my wife, she came to this conclusion on her own.

I cut on Nelson before a bit, but I think he's a very good inker.  One of the better that I've seen in awhile.  But if the editorial decision is true, I guess you do what your boss tells you to.

Although, as an artist himself, I would think he would have stuck up for JB's pencils and what was there.

My opinion here: I think there is a dislike with some of the folks in the comics field (artists, editors, etc.) of the way JB draws certain things - especially faces - and they change them when they feel they don't look "right" in their own eyes.

The expression on Repulse's face looked more "crazy" the way JB drew it.  I think that fit better with the character since she did come from part of Dr. Polaris' psyche.

With the magic of the InterNet, at lest some of us can get the "first steps" out there to be seen, and the audience can judge for itself whether the finishd product is good, bad, or neutral.

And I for one, appreciate that oppertunity! Thanks John.
