I saw that comparison post, and my thinking was more along the lines of "it's colored the way the drawing dictates." Beyond going really dramatic with the color scheme, ala Steranko, you're going to have the costume, foliage, earth, and river, and not really a whole lot of places to diverge from what JB clearly intends.

Joe implying possible plagiarism is a bad vibe to put out into the world.

I cover all my hardcovers- novels, trades, nonfiction - with Mylar book jackets and man, does "Elsewhen" really pop with one.

I mean, I get that art is subjective, but that comparison post makes me really glad that Joe didn't ink the Elsewhen book.  I'm sure I'm biased, but I'm ecstatic that John did most of the inking and that Paul stayed consistent with John such that it's difficult to tell who's pages are who's.  It's super cool that Walt and Scott did guest pages, and they both did a great job, but Scott's pages especially stick out.

Rubenstein didn’t even color the dirt brown and he’s saying the cover
colorist copied him.

And how else is a colorist supposed to color Sauron or Wolverine? Or trees
and leafy foliage? Did his expect blue leaves and purple Wolverine?

First, I think that Joe Rubenstein has talent, especially in his paintings that I've seen online.

But for inks, I've called him the Great Averager. He can make a 3-4 artist look like a 7....but he makes a 9-10 artist look like a 7, also. His inks tend to be sloppy on faces that are not close up, especially on the eyes. I did NOT like his inks over George Perez on INFINITY GAUNTLET. I could barely tell that it was George on the interiors, compared to the self-inked covers of the same issues.

Agreed, those paintings that Joe has been posting on his feed are lovely. And for the record, I recall liking his inks - particularly over Ron Frenz, which felt like a really natural fit.
