what were the reasons for Byrne to decided to do everything himself? I need a history lesson here because I can't think of anything else beside greed

+++++

$$$$$$

With Byrne writing, drawing, and inking each issue of FF, not to mention is residuals and sales bonuses (which came in around that time), he was really raking it in.

•••

Found this exchange elsewhere. To provide the requested history lesson, when Terry decided he didn’t want to ink FANTASTIC FOUR, editor Jim Salicrup told me there were only two inkers then available, Vince Colleta and Jim Mooney.

Jim S asked if I would be interested in doing it myself—he’d liked what he’d seen of my inks—and after some hesitation, I said yes.

Greed? This was long before royalties, and my page rates were still only slightly higher than the bottom of the barrel.

Sorry to disappoint.

Even if what this person baselessly opined were accurate, is accepting an offer to do a lot more work for more money actually an example of greed, i.e., an intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth?

I would be interested in how they defined “available”.   I would think by that year, Marvel was receiving samples from aspiring artists on a daily basis.

What do you imagine are the odds of an “aspiring artist” being assigned to FANTASTIC FOUR?

I liked Jim Mooney's work but I can't imagine your style
and his meshing well.

Colletta, well...Bullet dodged.

Mooney did a great job over JB in that one Daredevil issue, IMHO.
So happy tho, that Salicrup asked JB to ink his own, the rest is history.

++++++++++

That's very interesting. Do you have any idea why Joe Sinnott was no longer available for the FF?

Other inkers, including Joe, were committed to other assignments.

Byrne/Colletta would not have worked in the slightest, but there’s a part of me that would love to see how that looked. Did VC ever ink JB?

Vinnie inked my one issue of WEB OF SPIDER-MAN.

He was instructed by Shooter to heavily redraw the faces.

JB, I believe that was THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #58. The faces are obviously redrawn.
