Robert, your post makes me sad.
I just don’t get why we need so many versions of every character.
They all now have ‘families’ of their character. There’s just no need

It goes back to the Marvel Family in the Forties. After their success with Captain Marvel, Fawcett wanted more. So they started to de-unique the character, beginning with Mary Marvel, followed quickly by Captain Marvel Jr,* the three Lieutenant Marvels and so on.

DC set about doing the same, with Superboy and later Supergirl, Kandor, the Phantom Zone, &c.

The habit persists, tho few are aware of its origins anymore.

_______

* Freddie Freeman had an odd problem. He gained his powers by saying “Captain Marvel”, not “Shazam”, which meant he couldn’t call Cap by name, or even introduce himself.

It’s a problem DC didn’t seem to consider when they changed Captain Marvel’s name to Shazam.

I'm black/African American and I always want to see the return of the lesser known original black and other POC Marvel and DC characters. Sadly, the people editing and writing the comics from the Big 2 have a tendency to either kill, maim, depower, turn evil, or toss into limbo the cool and original black and other POC characters they have and then turn around and either race swap or introduce derivative/knockoff black and POC characters to replace existing white characters. That all being said, here is my list of lesser known/less popular black and POC characters that I would like to see be brought back at Marvel and DC.

John Wraith
Daryl Smith
Windshear
Risque
Orpheus
Joshua Power
Skyrocket
Striker Z
Triathlon
Ryder
Turbo
Batwing (Luke Fox)
Yukon Jack
Puck 2 (Puck's daughter)
Centennial
Talisman
Argo the Almighty (from the MC2 timeline)
Blacklight (from the MC2 timeline)
J2 (from the MC2 timeline)
Earth Sentry (from the MC2 timeline)
Warp (from the MC2 timeline)
Coal Tiger (from the MC2 timeline)
Jade Dragon
the entire Big Hero 6 team
Power Man 2 (Victor Alvarez)
Ax
Vibraxas
Jessie Bedlam
Skin
Darwin
M
Battlestar
Bengal
Gauntlet
Maxam
Troublemaker (from the New Universe)
Friction (from the New Universe)
Blur (from the New Universe)
Tyrone (from the New Universe)
American Eagle
Bandit
Dragonfly (from the Marvel UK comic Super Soldier)
Aegis
Network Nina
Kid Quantum
Tyroc
Meteorite
Charcoal (who was killed off out of spite)
Jolt
Red Lotus
Rufus "Super Midnight" Carter (the secret agent character from the MASTER OF KUNG-FU comic who Marvel should have used instead of race swapping Nick Fury)

Rick, that list and that idea are AWESOME.

That could get me back to Marvel.

DC made Darkseid the big villain of the Super Powers Team cartoon and toy line in 1984. And in 1986, they told JB no one was interested to Darkseid??

One thing I learned from working at DC was not to expect consistency.

Puck 2? This is real?

It is. In the process of creating this character, Marvel seems also to have turned Puck into a deadbeat dad.
