Congratulation, My wife retired from teaching about the same time you did.  I have not seen her more happy, and relaxed.  I am glad your retirement is relaxing and "not routine"

How do I avoid a daily routine? As my paternal grandfather used to sing…

Busy doing nothing, nothing the whole day through.

Trying to find lots of things not to do.

Busy going nowhere, isn’t it just a crime?

I’d like to be unhappy but,

I never do have the time.

You gotta stick around those rosebuds so they'll know when to pop!

I have a retired friend who still has a daily routine that he naturally fell into and now finds extremely difficult to deviate from: for example, his wife wants them to start going for walks in the morning, but he got used to walking in the evening after dinner, and he just can't break that!

Do you find yourself deliberately changing even little tiny things up just because

Yup. In fact, Dark Horse sold a limited edition Jasmine (Next Men) statuette I made.
