I am really not looking forward to waking up on Nov 6, no matter what the outcome of the election.

The Electoral College is the Three-Fifths Compromise in a different wrapper. There's no reason for its continued existence, other than as a way to amplify the voting power of low-population, majority white states. Which its defenders have always known.

Growing up in a true democracy (nearly) I was confused by the EC. Moving to the States did not improve matters.

There's always talk about the Rust Belt, and the Sun Belt, and various other states that represent some kind of larger voting demographic, but some states in the west that were granted statehood in the three decades after the Civil War - Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming - act as a kind of Race Belt. A bulwark against true democracy that reliably means that regardless of what the party affiliation is in the moment, these largely white and rural populations will have a vastly outsized impact on the Presidency, Senate, and Federal Judiciary.
I can sort of get on board with the idea that if there were no balancing mechanism in play, the coasts and large urban centers would have all the voting power and you'd have a complete loss of any real voice for that region. But the unbreakable minority rule that the EC imbalance currently creates is unjust and unsustainable and needs to be ended in a now kind of way. This old machine is broken beyond repair; something new can be fashioned.

Sorry, but that's the argument I always hear from people on the right.
The electoral college only matters for one election, the POTUS, every other state and federal election is one person, one vote.
If you're a R living in a D state or vice versa, your vote litterally doesn't matter in the election for POTUS and how is that fair to anyone?
The ONLY reason R's defend the electoral college and use that argument is that they've only won the popular vote ONE time in the last 30 years.

Remember the 20th century, when the Electoral College didn't matter? Those were the days...

And now Musk is going to interview Trumf. The mind boggles. I can’t even make a joke about it.

The Dems need to strongly work toward abolition of the EC and expanding the Supreme Court. That is, in my mind critical to undo some of the harm that's been done by the poltical and population minority over the past decade.
They could also mitigate some of this harm by seriously and aggressively making DC and Puerto Rico states. Both of these places want and deserve statehood. Practically speaking this would add 4 senators to the mix, likely Dems which would then allow the Dems to tackle the supreme court issue, change the ec and codify women's bodily autonomy among other important issues.
Biden was never willing to go there, will Kamala?

According to Pew: "About two-thirds (66%) of the voting-eligible population turned out for the 2020 presidential election – the highest rate for any national election since 1900."
Imagine the percentage if every vote counted!
