I ran across the book on forgotten Canadian superheroes in our local library in the early '80s. Of course haven't seen it since, and I've wished to refresh my memory about them. There was at least one artist whose name I remembered though, a Dingle, a bit like a Canadian Kirby or perhaps more a Frank Robbins.
I had some late '40s/early '50s 'Canadian' comic books, most were complete reprintings of U.S. comics with different ad pages, but one seemed to be new and starred Robin Hood. I had mostly Dell, Fawcett and Standard Canadian editions, but the Robin Hood was published by 'AA' (Anglo American?)
Fannish idea: a faux vintage Canadian comic in that Dingle/Caniff style starring Wolverine and maybe a cameo from Nelvana! Could be a very fun one-shot.

So, if Roy came up with “Wolverine,” then whoever came up with Logan
should get a creator’s cut as should (the completely ridiculous) James
Howlett and Weapon X creators. Let’s see, what else? Patch?

Wow! Mind blown! But yes, the 'Red Ensign' was the flag of Canada back then, pre Lester Pearson.

Instead of accusing the guy of "waiting until the other guys were dead" before acting "disgraceful" perhaps he was being a gentleman and letting Len Wein take the lion's share of the credit.
So the gentlemanly behavior stops when the other person is dead? I confess I hadn't, ever, ever heard anything of the sort in any culture, more like the opposite.
You know, good art is forever. And can never be truly taken away, as hard as some people try. Get that credit when nobody can dispute you, whatever.
100 years from now, someone will be reading Mr. Miracle and instantly understand what kind of person this was.

According to Bobbie Chase in the article, Len Wein's widow Christine Valada isn't very happy. There's a follow-up article, in which Tom Brevoort disagrees with giving an editor co-creator credit, along with Coleen Doran, Gregory Wright, Dan Jurgens, Rob Liefeld, and Neil Gaiman. In a Facebook thread, Brevoort posted "Creators get the credit, editors get the blame. That is the compact of the job, and those who cannot abide by it do dishonor to our profession. Don Draper had the right of it: "That's what the money is for!"" Chris Claremont may have been given credit for Alpha Flight despite minimal involvement, but Roger Stern wasn't. There are also interviews by Peter Sanderson with Thomas, Wein, and Dave Cockrum about his origin.

Margaret Atwood did a three issue series called War Bears about a Canadian comic book writer doing Canadian superheroes during WWII.
