This is a tough one, given how skilled our host is at bringing out the best of the characters we love.
That said, my choice is Doctor Doom.
Prior to Mr. Byrne taking charge of the writing and art on the Fantastic Four, my exposure to Doom had been limited to the story arc that ended with FF #200.
With JB at the helm, Doom became a much more interesting and formidable character to me. FF #258 remains one of the best stories I have read, simply because Mr. Byrne understood Doom so well and could bring out all the qualities in him that both appealed to and frightened us.
I felt that seeing our host's version of Doom was akin to seeing the way the character had been first envisioned and crafted by Lee & Kirby. To my (then) teenage self, it was like seeing Marvel Comics hitting on all cylinders and pulling away from the competition.
