I get the sense that, as noted, some folks just want something to grouse about.

People seem to be enjoying the utter failure of Heather Antos to inspire a boycott of ELSEWHEN—the book having sold out in preorders TWICE before she even got started.

But the internet being what it is, that’s not enough. Like a raging wildfire, the story has been leaping from branch to branch, warping and mutating until some now insist the success of ELSEWHEN is BECAUSE of Ms Antos’ “boycott“!

Maybe I should send her a box of chocolates?

Odd to see a number of posts online from people asking “how to start reading” ELSEWHEN. One even asked if he should start with UNCANNY X-MEN 1–from 1963!

I know it’s been quite a while since I’ve been producing new material (tho the reprints continue to flow out of DC and Marvel), but have people really forgotten what to expect from a John Byrne comic?

I’ve talked many times over the years of how I address the fact that “every issue is the first issue for somebody.” How my multi-part stories include what I hope are unobtrusive recaps. How I have the characters called by as many variations on their names as seems reasonable. And plenty of manifestations of their powers.

So, to start reading one of my books—including ELSEWHEN—open the cover and turn to the first page!

Wandered thru a Reddit thread commenting on ELSEWHEN and found this:

“ I wonder how many adults are going to be attracted to children? It is Byrne's favourite recurring plot point.”

Interesting. Since the poster neglected to do so, I wonder if anyone else would care to provide some examples. ADULTS ATTRACTED TO CHILDREN.

Maybe my memory is fading, but I can’t think of ANY.

Ridiculous online clucking.

Looks like the book that went back to press is arriving, since Barnes and
noble notified me that they are shipping mine.

A guess?

Misremembering (or intentionally misinterpreting) Kitty's crush on Piotr. I don't recall the affection going the other way at the time.

By you a fourteen year old girl and a seventeen year old boy is inappropriate? With the girl doing the crushing?

No, I'm guessing where it might (semi-)reasonably be coming from. Colossus has, more recently, been portrayed as much older, particularly in the movies. They might be misremembering the age gap at the time. I may also be giving the poster more credit than they deserve.

Chris Claremont definitely forgotten how close Kitty and Peter were in age and made the gap bigger.

In X-Men #183 Wolverine took Colossus to a bar and when Colossus got asked for ID he replied, "I am nearly 20!"

At the same time Kitty was 14. Chris stated her 14th birthday was when they were is space fighting the Brood. And turned her 15 when she was a member of Excalibur.

Wait - Kitty was meant to be 15 years old during the Claremont/Davis EXCALIBUR run? There's no way.

Kitty must be kin of Merlin. She apparently ages backwards.
