Don Heck was a solid penciller, I like his work more than Perlin's, somewhat as I like Sal Buscema and George Tuska. Don Perlin had eccentric qualities though and when he, or with his brother, inked his work it was even more eccentric!

I saw some Don Heck Aquaman that was particularly excellent, but it does seem the inker meant a lot. I had those mid '60s Avengers as well as some early Iron Man, he got a little blander as time went on so there is more individuality earlier (maybe before he knew what he was doing so much). I think any inker would have enjoyed inking Heck, Tuska, Sal... solid, no stiffness, and with some room to add to it!

One of my favorite things about the comics I grew up with was when Jim Starlin would drop by for one issue and hit it out of the park.  (His single GHOST RIDER issue and SUPERBOY AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #239 are probably the best issues of those series.)

Here's a couple of pages from AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #187 co-plotted with Marv Wolfman and beautifully inked (for the first and only time?) by Bob McLeod.

I remember that ASM issue (reprinted in B&W in a UK weekly mag way back when).

Beautiful.

That was a favorite of mine too.
