I really liked Dave Cockrum's inking!  Here he is on three early 70's issues of AVENGERS, inking four different pencilers.

Two pages of AVENGERS 106 by Rich Buckler & Dave Cockrum--

Three pages of AVENGERS 107 by Jim Starlin & Dave Cockrum--

One (flashback) page of AVENGERS 107 by George Tuska & Dave Cockrum--

Two pages of AVENGERS 108 by Don Heck & Dave Cockrum--

It really paid off whenever Don Heck had a good inker, and Cockrum was better than most for him; both drew beautiful women with large cat eyes.  This was a nice match.

I bought that Avengers 106 off the newsstand as a kid and read the heck out of that book.   Really nice art from Buckler/Cockrum.

Dave Cockrum was quite the formidable inker! I’m not the biggest fan of Don Heck’s work but the Heck/Cockrum combination turned out beautifully.

Yes, Dave Cockrum came back for a second round of AVENGERS inking!  Here's some pages I found--

AVENGERS #124 by John Buscema & Dave Cockrum

AVENGERS #125 by John Buscema & Dave Cockrum

AVENGERS #126 by Bob Brown & Dave Cockrum

GIANT-SIZE AVENGERS #2 with Dave Cockrum inking himself

I always find it interesting when an artist inks different than he pencils!  Klaus Janson is the best example of this--his inks are so precise but his full art has a messy feel to it.  Bob Layton and Terry Austin, on the other hand, DO ink like they draw.  I consider Dave Cockrum to be a slick inker but not a slick penciler.

That splash page has always been one of my favorite Hawkeye images.

Layton and Austin...I could go for an issue or two of that combo.
