Speaking of Dr. Strange, a number of his covers boasted some interesting one-shot pairings.
DR. STRANGE #9 by Gil Kane & Dan Adkins Not an especially unexpected pairing for the time, just one I don't remember seeing anywhere in particular. (Doc's sleeves have an odd solid/muscular look though.)
DR. STRANGE #10 by Gil Kane & Tom Palmer I often associate Klaus Janson with either Gil Kane or Gene Colan, but Tom Palmer only with Colan--never with Kane!
DR. STRANGE #11 by Gene Colan & Frank Giacoia Gene Colan is such an ethereal penciler and Frank Giacoia is so solid--an odd choice.
DR. STRANGE #18 by Gene Colan & Al Milgrom Again, Al Milgrom has such a solid-world ink line and to pair him with wispy, flowing, moody Colan is peculiar.
DR. STRANGE #35 by Gene Colan & Bob Wiacek It's hard for me to place Bob Wiacek. He's not shiny-sci fi like Bob Layton, light-and-shadowy like Klaus Janson, painterly like Tom Palmer, or super-solid and clean like Joe Sinnott. My first instinct is to think of him as more on the technical-mechanical side, so I'm surprised how much I like him on Colan for this supernatural cover!
DR. STRANGE #41 by Bob Layton & Klaus Janson An inker inking an inker! And different kinds of inkers at that! But it's effective!
DR. STRANGE #46 by Frank Miller & Tom Palmer Again, I have often seen Frank Miller with sometime Gene Colan inker Klaus Janson but never with THE Gene Colan inker Tom Palmer!
