@ JB --
Please forgive the drift.
I've been engaged in an online disagreement with a gentleman pertaining to the nature and timeline of the whole "laced" plot device.
My understanding (which could be wrong) was that Jim Shooter, the then-Editor-In-Chief, had some sort of issues with the bones being pure adamantium -- something about the white blood cells, regeneration, potential weight issues (?), etc.
My understanding of the counterpoint was that Wolverine is a mutant (discounting the Sabertooth lineage), and as such he doesn't need to rely on white blood cells to work that healing magic.
I pointed out that the whole laced thing was a bit of a retcon. Shooter wanted to change the pure adamantium bones to laced/augmented bones because he just wasn't a fan of the original intent. The guy I'm having this discussion with is suggesting that, well... Byrne is incorrect. Something along those lines, but not in an abrasive fashion. My belief was that, more or less, from his inception up until Shooter's meddling, Logan's bones were solid adamantium.
Is this correct?
We saw in #142 that his skeleton was, apparently, a solid construct of pure adamantium bones --- but in the OHOTMU it falls back on the whole fused/laced device. (Note that in the Handbook, Wolverine is wearing his brown costume, so his profile was clearly written after your departure from the book.)
I don't wanna argue just to argue, especially if I'm wrong.
I'm sorry if you're sick of rehashing this. It does however touch upon your original intent, especially as pertains to his pulverized bones here in ELSEWHEN.
Is there a definitive true-or-false disconnect with Shooter, solid adamantium, laced adamantium, office politics, etc, etc?
Please and thank you.
