If I may echo Bill Guerra:A smoldering bear?? I have no idea where this story is headed. Cool!

I can only assume a whole bunch of you are biting your typing fingers to avoid speculation. Either that, or I’m a lot better at this than I thought I was!

I can honestly say I have no idea where this is going. I really thought it was a real bear yesterday and finding out different today makes me realize we have a subplot reaching fruition-- but I can't guess what it's about.
Realizing that it's supposed to be deducible, I'll say I'm not trying hard to figure it out and don't intend to.

These fingers were made for biting.
Another thing I've been enjoying a lot lately is the camaraderie between Cyclops and Storm. This isn't a universe where she fights a sad sack Scott for leadership of the X-Men in #150, that's for sure. They're real teammates.

Professor X suddenly expressing romantic feelings for a young Jean Grey caused me to wonder about the guy.
Her teammate in anguish, Storm saying something shallow and flippant, then walking off leaving him in added confusion is another example of diminishing a character for me.
Kitty telling bedtime stories centered on the recent tragic loss of a team member she herself barely knew, followed by a very unlikely seeming impersonation of same. Most amazingly there are other X-Men fans who say they 'loved' those issue whereas I felt a bit cheated by them.
The victim of bad writing can be irretrievably destroyed to where the reader or a writer coming in later has to forget or undo. Once Batman has changed to where he plainly murders The Joker there isn't all that much room left to continue except to forget or undo.

Well said. In the past 10-15 years Cyclops has been twisted into so many unrecognizable forms. The motive seems to have been more commentary on the times than a reflection of a journey.
It's possible to evolve a character without fundamentally, irrevocably changing their values and core personality; one of many reasons why these Elsewhen stories are so refreshing.

Agreed, and I fully recognise the point - unfortunately, that malaise is not confined to Cyclops ... or even just Marvel ...
