Balloon placement! Thanks for noticing! I cringe when I look at my early work, before I figured this out. Balloons often looked as if they had been spilled randomly across the page.
I often tell newbies to arbitrarily "kill" the top quarter of each panel. Put nothing important there, so there's plenty of room for the lettering.
It's not hard and fast, of course, and sometimes the copy placement must be shaped around the art, but it is good to remember that the balloons and captions should read left to right, top to bottom, in each panel AND across the page.
I'm glad two members of Alpha Flight are on the scene because it feels like the X-Men are going to need all the help against those demons they can get!
Aw, man! The X-Men just took possession of that big door, and it's already warped! You just can't trust those kids with a nice headquarters facility.
Seriously, though...love the little details on today's page: the engine bells on the hovercar, Colossus's face, Shaman making sure Heather lands safely as Guardian springs into action.
Is there a link handy where the workflow has been discussed? I don't want to offend the thread gods with questions answered elsewhere like what digital tools are used in the process like scanners and Photoshop filters or grids vs analog tools like lightboards and lead weights.
