I was just looking at the “doing the inker’s job for him” style of pencils here and wondered— is it a coincidence that trying your hand at this level of embellishment again unlocked your inner X-Man again? In other words, could anything else have provoked this, or could drawing this way again have provoked any other project?•• Can you simplify the question, Mark? I don’t follow you.

I'm really enjoying the interactions between Kitty and Professor X in this series.

I'm really enjoying the interactions between Kitty and Professor X in this series.•• This is certainly the most use I've gotten out of X in all my years associated with the X-Men. Even more than in HIDDEN YEARS (where he was, admittedly, still a bit "out of sorts" following X-MEN 67). Something in the nature of ELSEWHEN just keeps pushing him into the foreground.

Gotta say, I absolutely love that last panel of Professor X. That stark "I MUST!" expression with the lines etching the hollows of the cheek and the sharp brows are really amazing. And let me add that I'm glad he's a big part of this story--I always felt he was sidelined much too often, for a fellow who's supposed to be the patron/mentor of the team, and you're doing a terrific job of giving him a central role that doesn't override Scott, Kitty and all the others.

Stan and Jack used X as a kind of deus ex machina two issues in a row in the early days, defeating the Vanisher and the Blob all by himself.I think their reasoning behind putting him in a wheelchair was to prevent him from being the quick and easy solution to every story, but they had to keep pushing him further and further back to allow the X-Men to be the real stars of their own book.

I keep looking at the Adams-esque Thor face shot on page 12. Did you have a particular person in mind for this?
I keep telling myself this is someone I should recognize. Thank you.

This may now actually be my favorite 'run' of X-Men comics. Amazing stuff.

Ditto! I like how JB shows Kitty moving through earth.
Oh, and that last panel showing Kitty and the professor's faces... That's top notch stuff!

It's certainly mine. I loved JB's art back then, but his skills are levels and levels above that now.

I LOVE panel 4 of Kitty "swimming" through the underground! Her body language suits someone who would be swimming underwater and the look of determined realization on her face looks excellent!
What a cool panel!

Every single rendering of Kitty looks amazing on today's page---so expressive! I could easily see how she might steal the show.
