Love that everyone had the same thought I had, and that it was on purpose with the Thor/Neal Adams bit. As much fun as this Alt-X-Men storyline has been it'll be fun to see what comes next. Dang, never dreamed we'd get this much of the X-Men I grew up with in the early 80's. Now we get a Superman equivalent vs Thor (not speculation as it started already) but no editor to tell Mr. Byrne how to end it.
Thank you Mr. Byrne for the fun this has been so far.

Panel 3: Now there's a glorious visage I've not seen the likes of since the Kree/Skrull war!

Secrets Behind the Comics: I've been making no secret of my shameless Neal Adams swipes in ELSEWHEN, but there is one element I'm not sure I have mentioned before. In order to allow for some degree of "originality" I have been swiping Neal's lighting effects, but not his actual faces. So the shading on that Thor face, for instance, is not from a Thor that Neal drew.Shameless AND sneaky, that's me!!

My eyes keep going to Cyclops’s fist on today’s page. I dig how it’s not the traditional “box” drawn most of the time a fist is drawn.

Such a fantastic viewpoint on Cyclops! All those new costume variants Marvel has pushed in the decades since...and all those fancy-shmancy digital coloring effects...well, your unadulterated pencils and the elegant simplicity of the original look has them handily beat. For powerful, dramatic style, this work is in a class all its own.
This is, without a doubt, simply the X-men at their best. You (JB) make it look effortless, but we all know it takes tremendous time, creativity, and effort. Thank you!
(Go Thor!)
EDIT: Forgot to add that I really like the Kitty-Prof X dynamic. It's what he needs. Although he's not that old, she's like his granddaughter. There's irreverance, but affection too.

Love the action! Also, isn't this the second time Kitty has saved Prof. X's can?

Re: Cyclops' fist ---
The firing mechanisms for his visor are housed in various pressure points in his glove, primarily along the axis of his forefinger, I believe. So rather than depicting the traditional comic 'battle-fist', we have John Byrne doing his usual, meticulous, paying-attention-to-detail Masterclass rendering.
See: Nightcrawler's fur, Colossus' judo, the real Jean's hair, etc

I read a quote this morning from literary scholar Peter Brooks: “The end writes the beginning and shapes the middle.”
Is that how you work, JB?

I am kind of hoping Thor humbles the heck out of Gladiator.
