Something that I noticed, kind of the wrong way about the two Magnetos....
On page 5, the way the helmet goes around his eyes is much more angular than normal, and I thought, "Hmmm, don't like that, I like the more circular look. Wonder why JB changed that?"
Then on pages 8 & 10, I noticed it went back to normal, and was happy to see that.
Then it struck me. This must be a visual difference between the two Magnetos. Duh. A little slow on that uptake, but I am usually taking a quick look at these on break at work, so sometimes it takes a day or two for it to all sink in to my head.
Amazing looking work on a story I never thought I'd see come to life in an form.

I was thinking the same thing -- maybe they want to capture and mind-control Xavier's new X-Men, while killing off the ones they already have??

Those possibilities have occurred to me, but I’m keeping speculation to myself.

The use of The Watcher's brooding eyes to flip between realities/timeframes is a simple but extremely effective device to convey the 'weight' of events; the use of the thick black borders to distinguish the evil 'mirror' world, likewise. Wonderful presentation of the narrative.

Can't help but notice that the last couple of pages have produced a surge of comments outstripping anything since the earliest days of this project.Maybe it IS a good idea to give the fans what they think they want. Sometimes.

I've been fascinated by this concept since I saw the sketches and rough description in "The Art of John Byrne" back in the early 80's. The "What if" commission a few years back rekindled my interest. To have the concept fleshed out in a comic by JB is a dream come true.
Thank you!

The fact that you are presenting ELSEWHEN is great. Your version of the WHAT IF story that was teased in THE ART OF JOHN BYRNE is icing on the cake.

Perhaps a key to this story's appeal is that it goes far beyond what was outlined long ago in The Art of John Byrne. Here, "What if Magneto Formed the X-Men" is only half of the tale -- the "backstory" to the current events. JB's exploration of how the two universes collide is, to me, the most enjoyable part. There's so much packed into this latest page alone ... !

Maybe, but I'll post a comment here that it's been the surprises that please me the most.
For example, feeling the original Phoenix slip away and then having the original Jean emerge so quickly as a character I truly root for is something I never would have asked for. Yet it is so fulfilling as an X-Fan who felt let down by the original run's follow up to the Dark Phoenix Saga.
There's a break-neck pacing here that races through things I thought I would want to dwell on. But I always find something new taking me past those moments. I'm so grateful for the unpredictable newness of Elsewhen!

Years ago when my cousin and I less-than-halfway attempted to break in to comics, we actually used the What If? idea from THE ART OF JOHN BYRNE as the basis of our story. We actually did a handful of pages. I still have some of those somewhere. Needless to say, this is way cooler than any story we could’ve come up with.
