The poster was originally drawn as a center spread for "The Fantastic Four Chronicles", a Marvel-approved but not Marvel-published book that came out in the 80s, along with similar volumes about Spider-Man and Daredevil.

When Marvel was casting about for poster material a few years later, I suggested doing a color version of this, which had been originally printed in black and white. I updated the costumes, and drew a new figure of Attuma to be statted and added in. The extension of the image on the right side, in order to accomodate Attuma, also necessitated finishing the figure of the Awesome Android and shifting Kuurgo over a bit.

At the time, I believe that was the first time I had drawn Attuma.

One of my all-time favorite Byrne drawings.  I'd like to see this one done again, but with everybody fighting...................

Temporary delusion that you're George Pérez, perhaps?

******

I've had an odd sensation that I have been channeling George a number of times lately. In the past couple of years something has been happening to the way I render faces, in particular, that more and more reminds me of the directions he has taken with his own work.

Thanks for the info, JB.  One of my favorite comic book items!
