The reason Neal is doing the X-Men is because he is taking over for Dave
Cockrum. Dave had originally planned to do Giant Size X-Men #3 with
Joss Wheaton writing and inked by John Cassaday. Unfortunately, Dave
has recently gone on dialysis and its taken alot of of him. He won't be
able to draw the Giant Size X-Men for the scheduled release date. Dave
thinks he will be getting stronger once he is used to doing dialysis and
could be back to drawing. He is doing the cover for the issue plus an
Avengers cover. So Neal volunteered to step in and help out.
I am glad Neal is doing X-Men again but don't understand why Marvel
couldn't put Giant Size X-Men #3 on hold until Dave would be feeling
better. Its only a single issue so it could always to rescheduled at a later
date.

They replace Dave Cockrum over health problems on a stand-alone story
but they let modern artists turn in late stuff on ongoing storylines
all the time. Yikes.

Sadly Cockrum is not "hot" these days and thus not as deemed important
enough to wait for unlike the Hatches and others growing flowers (or
worse) in their basements between issues. If it were me making
the decision, I'd wait for Dave at least a couple of months so there
would be a better understanding whether he could proceed or not.
Neal Adams could be an interesting fill-in; I'm sure he's doing it to help
Dave out and not for any other reason.
For those who missed the GA/GL work,
here's a link to thecovers for the reprints. The link goes to Neal's website. I hope
that's acceptable.

I haven't yet read the recent issues of Uncanny X-Men so I can't comment on the story but by flipping through them, I have to say that the Alan Davis artwork is wonderful. This is some of my very favorite Alan Davis art and he's done quite a bit of stuff over the years. Some of the recent Savage Land stuff seemed reminiscent of Neal Adams while still being Alan Davis.
Like most, I'm eagerly awaiting seeing Neal Adams do X-Men again. When Dave Cockrum's health improves, it would be cool to see him do another 8 page X-Men story for publication somewhere. For that matter, it'd be interesting to see his version of the same story to compare his version with Neal's. (Too much to hope for JB's version as well).

Do we know for certain that that is the way of things? Not simply that Neal had offered as a kindness to Dave and the ptb thought it would be a cool thing? Are we sure that they would not have waited for Dave if this offer had not been there? Not particularly wanting to defend M****l editorial, but ...

Looks like, and her hair too!
If my eyes don't deceive me there also appears to be a male Pyslocke.

It must be one of those alternate universe thingees, because there's also a male version of Psylocke above Brian's right shoulder (at least, its Betsy's energy signature, the sum, part and parcel of her psionic powers focused into a razor thin blade of nigh-mumbojumboed claremontism).
Edited because I'm not well

Reminds me, I must aquire the Special Edition reprints DC put out of Neals Batman work. (A lot cheaper than the originals or the new hardback collections.)

No, buy the hardback collections! They are some of the most sumptious, handsome hardback collections out there. Adams is such a perfectionist; he's painstakingly retouched some of the original artwork over 30 years later just to present the work in the best light possible! What an artiste! Plus the rich recolouring throughout is a surprise treat. I wish more hardback collections paid such attention to detail while pulling out all the stops like Adams's books!

I am sure they are great but at £50 I think I will have to opt for a cheaper option.

You've a point; but you should consider writing to Santa about the
hardcovers, including volume 3 out this August, whenever you get round
to composing your Christmas wishlist!
