A Story:I was visiting DC when the EiC called me into his office. “Todd McFarlane wants you to pencil a story for him to ink.” Politely as possible, I said “No.” He pressed. “Come on! What would it take to get you to do it?” I thought for a moment. “You’d have to let me do GENERATIONS 4.” (Not for McFarlane to ink.) He picked up the phone and called his boss, down the hall. After a quick conversation he hung up. “Sorry, no more ElseWorlds.” “Oh, well,” I said. “But you’ll still do something for Todd, right?” sigh

I’d never heard Priest/Owsley talk before. The only pic I’ve ever seen of him was mid-80s Marvel.
McFarlane wants to ink JB? That would be interesting(?).

Interesting to hear your impact described as an "earthquake," JB, in particular amid images from the X-MEN run.
My recall of that time is that your work was far more valued after you'd departed that comicbook. Much more powerful aftershock, to extend the metaphor.

Memory is a funny thing. I hear/read people discussing my Huge Impact, yet clearly they have no real memory of the actual time and place. X-MEN was "everybody's favorite book"--despite the fact that it was a marginal seller ever in danger of cancelation.Fans tend to view their personal microcosm as an accurate reflection of the macrocosm. Rarely the case.

Hi folks,
For some reason, despite my constant requests for these to be unlocked for global audiences, they always seem to post this way. We're working to unblock it and should be viewable to those outside the U.S. later today. I will post an update once I hear back.
Regarding Neal and Christopher J Priest ... I wanted to leave more of their thoughts on John in there. Walt & Weezie also were very eloquent when I talked with them about John .... Heck, Jimmy Palmiotti also had some cool things to say. Ultimately, I felt it was better to have as much of John in the piece as possible...so something had to give.
I wanted to say 'Thanks' to John for giving me the opportunity to talk to him about a variety of topics. I assume it's obvious from the videos that I'm a big fan :)

Another Story:The WHEELIE AND THE CHOPPER BUNCH cover they show is a particular sore point. Charlton did not approve of art that crossed over or cut into the logos, so one day their editorial department sent out a memo, with an illustration, showing the top third or so of the covers as absolutely inviolable. "NEVER DRAW ANYTHING IN THIS SPACE!" So, I did that WHEELIE cover, and obediently left that area empty. Next thing I know, a newly appointed associate editor was sending out his own memo instructing us all to fill in the space UP TO the logo--and using that cover as an example of how NOT to do it. Putting it mildly, I was furious. I had no idea what the WHEELIE logo looked like when I drew the cover--that it was so "short"--and had drawn exactly what the previous memo demanded. To be singled out for "doing it wrong" when I had in fact done it RIGHT by their own RULES.....!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Nice to hear Weezie articulate something I have said many times: don't hire John Byrne unless you want to get John Byrne.Perhaps hearing it from her will allow some of the more vocal Byrne Bashers to understand it's NOT an example of raging ego.
