I'm realizing he was in fact the closest equivalent in human form of the Big Bang.

1.8 people die on Earth every second.* It is a considerable accomplishment to be noticed.

* 4.2 are born. There’s a big problem.

When I was first told by a person on my dorm room floor that Stan had passed I initially thought it was a sick joke. Once I looked it up and saw the news I immediately got this sinking feeling in my gut, and it's fair to say that I'm still somewhat in disbelief about it.

Excelsior, Stan. You did incredible things.

Well, he was 95 and had pneumonia so this didn't come as a surprise but it's still a hit to the guts. Another important part of my childhood -- and, in a different way, adulthood -- now gone.

Farewell, Smilin' Stan.

As others have said, it wasn't a complete surprise, but I was still taken aback by it and was seriously moved more and more as the day went on. So much of my life from then 'till now is wrapped up in Marvel Comics and so many friends I've developed because of that.

You can't tell me he wasn't Mr. Fantastic!

Stan on "To Tell The Truth" (1971)...

Stan appears midway through, at about the 14:00 mark.

Enjoy!

I'm so very happy that I got to experience the Marvel Universe that had Stan Lee's fingerprints all over it. He really brought so much entertainment and wonder to so many people over the decades.

I'll most definitely miss Stan "The Man" Lee, but, he will never be forgotten!

Stan Lee's daughter is on TMZ right now claiming, "My father didn't co-create anything! He CREATED Spider-Man and the Hulk! Everyone's saying 'co-created' and I'm sick of it!"

Um... Kirby who? Ditko who?

I met Stan Lee here in Edinburgh in the early 90s. He was in his 70s, and God only knows what he made, or understood, of our Scottish accents - but he grinned and chatted with everyone, cheerfully signing everything that was handed over to him (I got him to sign my 30th anniversary issue of the Fantastic Four, IIRC).

I know that Stan wanted to see his comic creations up on the big screen, and I'm glad he lived long enough to see the critical and commercial success of the MCU - and I'm sure he relished the cameos he made!

R.I.P Stan Lee.

I've put this up at a couple other places online. It's a great example of Mr. Lee's humor, written for a soapbox around this time of year back in 1975...

"THANKS"
By Henry Wadsworth Lee

I'm thankful for our writers
Whose imaginations never fail,
And I'm thankful for our artists
Who illustrate each tale.
I'm thankful for our letterers
Who print the words we write,
And without our classy colorists
We'd just be black and white.
I'm thankful for our editors
Who put it all together,
And the gang that proofs each
   peerless page
In every kind of weather.
I'm thankful for our printers
So dependable and true,
And also for our auditors
Whatever it is they do.
I'm thankful for our sales force
Selling every neighborhood,
And I thank our competition
For making us look good.
Now here's to all of Marveldom
I can't thank you enough,
Yep, you're the ones I thank the most
For reading all this stuff!

Excelsior!
    Stan
