Geese, we will ever be able to have a thread remembering the man without it degenerating into this? I reckon we gave him a day, two tops before this reared it’s head.

Would it be easier for the pedants, to think of Stan as
the front man of a band, whilst others in the band co-
create, the front man usually gets the credit as he does
all the press and is the most recognisable figure.
All this sad pedantry whilst the guy is dead less than a
week is very distasteful.

All I know is that Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko fired up my imagination with their works, and have given me hours...even years of entertainment and enjoyment with what they produced. All three have passed now, and my previous statement is how I regard them all, and the people they inspired with their works like Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, Len Wein, Marv Wolfman, George Perez, John Byrne, Frank Miller, Walt Simonson and so many more.

I’ve had opportunities to attend signings with Stan over the past several years, and each time I opted not to go because I always pictured my reaction being similar to Troy on COMMUNITY meeting LeVar Burton. I was content to just wave from a distance while passing his table.

Michael, I had a similar reaction recently when I met Neal Adams. There were simply no words. I can't imagine how much more intense that reaction would have been had I met Stan.

I met Stan twice.

On the same day.

Once by accident and the other by design.

This was at FanExpo in Toronto in 2010, the one so jam packed they had to stop people who left to get something to eat outside from re-entering the venue because of fire code violations.   We were lined up waiting to get into the line where you waited to see Stan and the secondary line had snaked around the outside perimiter wall of the room with a row of those room dividers made of fabric to separate the line from the meat of the con.   I got to talking and comiserating with some of my fellow liners and joked "I bet you Stan's right on the other side of this wall..." and proceeded to lift the fabric up to reveal...

Stan sitting in a chair!   Oops.  Said my apologies and about an hour later met Stan the old fashioned proper way.

He remembered who I was the second time around too.  Even Stan used to say his memory wasn't the best but he was sharp as a sack full of tacks that day!

On a lighter note, I was chatting with one of my gal pals yesterday, and she mentioned that her sister-in-law had called about Stan's death. Seems she remembered meeting Stan at the wedding of my friend's son, some 12 years ago.

Well, of course, that was ME at that wedding, not Stan. In the minds of civilians, I guess, one comicbook pro is the same as another.

That`s why i can forgive the civilians who have claimed
this last week that Captain America or Wolverine are
their favourite Stan Lee character, he WAS Marvel comics
to a lot of people.

I've always leant towards DC, but I gladly admit that no one compares to Stan Lee in the world of comics.
In the 60s, Stan Lee gave DC a run for their money, in my opinion.
Everything in which Stan was involved feels like a breath of fresh air. It is surprising that in the 60s he was in his forties, since his voice in the captions sounded younger. Not because of his way of speaking, but because of the freshness, humour, originality. He obviously had a good time writing, and he passed that on the readers. He sounded like a funny friend telling you very fun stories.

Sergio, i think of him as everyone`s favourite uncle, he
taught us right from wrong, with great power, comes
great responsibility and inspired us to read more than
just comics, the dictionary for one, if only to look up
Behemoth, Annihilation, Armageddon and of course
Excelsior!

I had some friends tell me last week how amazing it was that he was still running things at Marvel this late in his life!

While I don't feel sad..........Stan lived a good long life.

I do want to thank Stan for all the entertaining comics.

Especially the ones done with Jack Kirby.( FF 1 - 100..A close 2nd Stan & Jack's Thor run in the Sixties.
